Whats Looking Good In October

It's been a strange year for them here. H. gardnerianum which usually struggles to flower was the first and best, but Pink Diamond and coronarium suffered from drought, I think, and have only just got going.

 

Ooo mine might be gardnerium. I'll have to wait till it flowers to check - I can't remember which I brought from last garden

 

H. gardnerianum has always been reliable in my garden along with densiflorum and tara, I've tried others and they are just too late flowering for the climate here IMO.

 

You're doing a lot better than I did in UK. I couldn't even get them to flower in the conservatory! Probably because I never tried them in the ground there. They love the damper, shady spots here....

 

The H. densiflorum has been growing in the driest root infested parts of the garden I have and flowers every year, I've grown H. gardnerianum since 1985 and cant remember a year when it hasn't flowered, in a pot or in the ground, up until a couple of years ago tara was always in pots but its getting even taller now its in the ground.

I wonder if they are differing clones, the densiflorum was from seed collected in the wild, not by me, the gardnerianum was originally from Hawaii, and the tara came from Eastbourne.

 

I love all your plants & flowers! Unfortunately I have little left to show after the storm we had a few weeks ago which put paid to most of my flowers! The hail did a lot of damage whereas the Petunias died from mildew much earlier this year than in previous years.

I do have some Fuchsias still flowering as well as the new Cyclamens I've put on the balcony railings in place of the Petunias. There are still a few Morning Glory flowers bravely hanging on. The Peruvian Lily's last stem died last week but I discovered a hidden stem with lots of buds that is growing up to take its place. As this is the first time I've ever grown this plant I don't know if the flowers will open before the cold weather really arrives or not.

Excuse me if the Cyclamen look rather the same but in fact it's one picture of every plant taken the same day! I have 11 plants on the balcony railings - should have been just 10 but I somehow miscounted them & bought 2 extras when I only needed one!

2023 Squash harvest

 

That is lovely. I am not a squash person, the vegetable or the game, but they look nice and colourful.

 

They also taste delicious, either roast, as soup and I also have a recipe for a squash and sage risotto.

 

I'm sure they do, but after 55 years I somehow can't get T'other Half to eat vegetables!

 

The potted Bougainvillea is still looking good despite the rain.

 

The cyclamen are looking good @Balc I like the red one with the darkish foliage .

Not grown Gloriosa before, they didn't do anything inside the GH so give up hope and put them outside over summer and up they popped. They look really nice hopefully I can get them through winter

@Perki You have some really lovely flowers in your garden! Are the Dahlias still alive or have they been killed by frost? We haven't had any frost here yet but any day now it could make its appearance know!

 

Well its of a bit of both the ones near the house are ok , but the other ones have frost / blackened tops but the unopened flower buds look ok and the lower leaves are ok , so I am debating whether to leave them for now or lift them
