Managed to find a ( small ) space in the greenhouse to allow me to sow some Sweet Peas undercover from the rain.

I will muster up the enthusiasm to address the untidy situation after dinner.

It can only look better..can't it.

Snapdragons......they're everywhere even just outside of the greenhouse, obviously escapee seeds from the pkt. when I was sowing some earlier this year. They're all gone now...Ta daa!!!
That's some harvested seeds drying out at the end there. Tomorrow I hope to wash the outside glass.

Hubs has just got to attach the bubble wrap to the front of the inside frame .

This afternoon he attached the roll down screens to the walled lean -to coldframe.

Once the greenhouse is done then I can really knuckle down to bringing in all the tender plants for overwintering this week. Such a relief when they are all safely snuggled down for Winter.

Only one down the allotment, someone has nicked my mouse traps of all things. Although rats are intelligent, maybe they recognised the the unset traps and pinched them  Been many years since someone stole something from me, all par for the course with a city allotment unfortunately. Replaced three garlic that had been dug out by some garlic loving animal. Also cleaned the glass of one of my greenhouses, still to do the roof. Had about two inches of rain overnight and there was a bit of flooding

About 48 years ago we had a falling down lean-to conservatory on the back of the lounge (due to be pulled down when the whole dilapidated building was going to be renovated in 1976) and a feral cat had set up home there and had a litter of kittens. The door had disappeared years ago. We could sit by the window and door that opened into to it and watch them. We didn't attempt to go near them as the mother was rather protective! :hate-shocked: One day we saw the mother walking backwards through the doorway and dragging a rat trap with a large dead field rat in it - lunch for the kids! We found out months later that the trap belonged to a neighbour so were able to return it. We started leaving chicken carcasses and all meat scraps and bones near the lean-to.

All eight kittens survived and after a year there were only two that we could see wandering through the garden occasionally and knew that two others had been adopted by neighbours.

At 4 a.m. this morning I was out in the garden watching the night/morning sky and fascinated by how clear it was. I spent about an hour out there, got cushions out of the summerhouse and sat on a bench wrapped up nice and snug, just staring.

The moon was a brilliant spotlight but the stars were amazingly clear with no shimmering through the atmosphere. It was the clearest sky I can remember ever having seen and I used to see very clear skies when in mid Atlantic whilst in the Merchant Navy - over 60 years ago.

Amongst a mass of stars, Orion's Belt was very clear and Venus and Jupiter were easily visible. Apart from the Barn Owls hooting somewhere and one seen flying across the sky there wasn't the slightest sound as there was no wind at all.

A wonderful start to the day. :dbgrtmb:

My dad often took me down the garden in the night to see the stars and he would point out and name the contellations etc. There were no lights on the roads where we lived in those days, and the skies were clearer.

                              Hi,

Three supermarkets visited this morning in heavy drizzle the type that really soaks; I'm about to load the car with full bin bags mostly of ivy but at last I'm getting well on top of clearing the garden area near the bungalow; I'll soon be planting.

                              I'm also making good progress restoring the vintage rotavator;

I'll be pleased to complete the painting because I'm brushing unable to spray due to out dire wet climate; these old machines are much better than the modern tinny machines they are made to last a lifetime. This Howard is self propelled so should prove easier to use on our steep valley site.

Time now to get off my backside had head to the tip.

                              Kind regards, Colin.

Way back when Michael my brother and I use to set up the deck chairs for a night of star gazing, great fun and very precious memories especially considering his health issues now.
