Full Fibre internet

    Too right we will. Since the line is dead from where it enters the house, they may have damaged it outside. BUT in that case the Internet should have gone down as well. It is very weird.

      But where do they run the new cable from, I'm assuming they don't have their own street cabling and will be running it from BT/Open reach.

      @Palustris, does the Befibre modem work?
      Ie. can you use the internet via it ?

      It sounds like you need two cables coming into your home if you still want BT landline.

      Seems BEfibre is separate from BT, but they do use the OpenReach(BT) Network.

      Also BT are converting all copper cable phone lines to Digital so @Palustris will need to go Digital with any landline, sooner or later.

      If BE fibre runs to his house, then assume BT could , or already provides a fibre service to his property, which would have a digital phone sevice included.

      Don't know why ihe took the BE service, but to us It would seem he has been mis-sold BEfibre as it cannot directly do digital phone calls unless he uses the methods explained earlier, or he keeps his BT phone line which doubles his cost.

        I'm struggling to see the difference between Befibre and other internet and phone providers, other that they own the short, (relatively), cable from the street to your property.
        Just seems not worth the effort.:scratch:

        Befibre were £25. BT is £47. BT claim not to be able to put Full Fibre to us, which is odd since Befibre managed it with no trouble from a BT telegraph pole on the road.

          Bet BT would have given you fibre if you were a new customer !

          £47 sounds a lot unless it included a big phone call package, but thats how the providers make their money by increasing existing users fees.

          Have you found out whats happened to the BT phone line ?

          From what we have read the analogue line is removed as soon as Full Fibre lines are installed. Even disconnecting the new modem and router will not reinstall the line. We probably will have to get a Voip device. BUT finding out about them is proving difficult.

          As far as we understand thing, BT cables and BEfibre cables are totally separate and different and BEfibre would have no reason or authority to disconnect your BT line, which if your can still use the BT boardband they have not done.

          Have you told BT to disconnect you / end your contact on a certain date, assume you are not going to pay for two services ?

          No experience of Voip but this link might give you a clearer idea of it, though perhaps someone here can guide you through it in detail or just serch look around the web and Ytube for some demos

          No. We are not on a contract so we can cancel whenever we choose as long as we pay 30 days usage.
          The Plusnet website does say that the analogue line is closed as soon as Fullfibre is initiated and then cannot be reinistated. Befibre did not mention that either. Except that their info says that the analogue line can still be used which as I have said does not appear to be true.
          Thanks for the info. Trying to find out if we need an adapter as well as a new handset is a nightmare.

          I can only say what is happening around here in the past few months.
          BT upgraded all their cables on poles to fibre, they then put leaflets in all doors stating they can provide full fibre if you want it.
          I never went into how this affected the Landline as I'm with Virgin atm.

          I cant see why Open Reach went to all that trouble of upgrading the cabling to then say they cant give you full fibre, it sounds stupid.:scratch:
          So you are paying Befibre £25 how much are you now paying BT for the phone line?
          Presuming the BT £47 covered both phone and broadband.

          were you with Plusnet not BT?

            As far as we can see Befibre put the fibre in locally, not BT. I think that is why the salesman was able to offer us Full Fibre.
            Only ever been with BT, I just looked up Plusnet to see what they were offering to get a price comparison with Befibre and BT.

              Sat down last night and really thought it through. We worked out that we actually only use the land line for half a dozen phone calls all together. Incoming that is and all of them could be informed of a change to a Mobile number very easily. As for outgoing, neither of us could think of any calls we have made which could not be done either with a Mobile or via Email. In that case we probably won't bother with a VOIP device and manage with the cheapo phone which we have for emergencies.
              Call this thread closed now and I am very grateful for all the input and help given.
