I have kind of got used to using my debit card these days, must admit I find it convenient and within minutes get a receipt on my phone.
I still have some cash on me and usually just pick some up from the cash machine when I run out.
The bank we had up the road usually had a queue out the door, mainly because they only ever had one till open.
nobody seems to want to employ any staff these days.

My Bank Lloyds have a cash machine inside the bank. I won't use machines outside.

      I got a 10% pay rise :hapydancsmil: whoopp-a whoopp-a yiee :yahoo:

It took me to the next tax level

So I'm plus minus zero in my pocket.

Then again, I think it's fair to pay more tax if you earn more, it's just the little nagging feeling that my extra pennies might not fill the exact coffers I'd like them to.

I'll keep an eye on news headlines " we were teetering on the edge of bankruptcy but just on the very last minute, a single person's tax contribution tipped the scale into our favour and ever since we have saved the planet, Shroediggitch school and a goat (Amelia)! Thank you Taxpayer! " :heehee:

I've been using the village post office for getting cash from my bank for at least 20 years. In the early days not many banks had that facility but I think most do nowadays. I also have a long way to go to my bank. Everything else is done by phone call to my bank. Or with those old fashioned things called cheques.

The only time I use a debit card is to get cash out at the post office. Otherwise it is credit card as they have better cover if something goes wrong. They also give me cashback on my spending

I only use the credit card online, for face to face stuff I prefer the money going out the bank as a trickle rather than a large chunk at the end of the month.

Can't remember the last time I had to visit a bank or write or recieve a cheque. Everything is via online banking except the hairdresser, so I occasionally get cash out when near an ATM.

We receive cash, cheques and bank transfers but cheques are getting fewer (and, funnily enough, replaced by cash). Our local hairdresser, fish and chip shop and farm shop only take cash. Although the farm shop will run a tab for regulars if they haven't the cash on them.

One of the busy pubs in the next small town only takes cash.

We have a tiny village shop but there is a post office in there, so we are lucky. :blue thumb:

Just received my annual extortionate demand for £160 from the BBC, is it really right that they allowed to put channels on their paperwork who, as far as I know, receive none of the money that I pay.
I thought it was just the BBC I was propping up, not the likes of ITV Channel 4 and 5, discovery, Sky etc.
I think this is wrong and they should only state BBC channels if none of the others are getting a share of the £160.

Everything is card payments for me too, our office canteen doesn't even accept cash any more.
I have a £20 note folded in my card holder for emergencies. I also have a £20 note in the kitchen tatty jar for the same reason- it'll pay for a taxi ride home even if I/ the Child gets robbed whilst out in Toon raving away. I can't put my trust 100% on payments that require electricity, network and equipment to work so emergency cash seems sensible.

The bus I used to take to work had ongoing card machine problems so I got perhaps half of my journeys for free when the machine failed and I offered to pay in cash but they didn't have change. "Just take a seat Luv"

I try to use cash occasionally so that I have tip money for hairdresser, restaurants and so on. Tips must have reduced a lot after Covid.

If you include tips in the payment by card then the establishment is supposed to deduct VAT from it! :rolleyespink: Also, it will be noticed by HMRC as additional income. Some establishments also take a cut from it.

The staff are likely to smile favourably upon you if you tip with cash.

Not being able to go out, drive, do anything without enormous difficulty and some risk, having to keep my leg elevated, Christmas programmes on TV (not that I watch TV, but I see and select programmes for me ol' Mum to watch from online listings (and that's anther "Grr!")), 'cos no chance of the wretched "nursing" "home" "staff" doing that for £6k/pcm, network lags, the weather, wretched Barclays bank "anti fraud" measures, and only now am I having breakfast (porridge of Kavanagh's rolles oats from Aldi, the best, and very runny home-made strawberry jam). GAH!

Still, The Boy has just arrived on a visit. Things may be looking up.
