Agree @Selleri , I didn't grow any last year, not sure why. These were in a dark place and I didn't want them there anyway....so took a chance. Need some seeds for next year .:)

        Hi,

After a lovely sunny morning I've just enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon in the gardens. It's taken a huge amount of work but I'm now winning and at the planting stage much to my delight.

        11 Nov 2023_0001.JPG
Potentillas; Anemones & border plants now in, These should look wonderful next springtime; I've given them all space to grow.
        11 Nov 2023_0002.JPG
It's been an heavy afternoon; emptying planters and moving others around; I've dumped a number of planters to make less maintenance in dry weather saving watering.
        11 Nov 2023_0003.JPG
The ivy in the planter on the patio is doomed; I'm getting rid of all our ivy I've had more than enough of it; I'll empty this planter and reposition it off the patio then the patio will be clear of planters making sweeping and pressure washing a lot easier.

It's not warm outside but I had to remove my heavy "site" coat and hang it on the hut door; I'm hot after the hard work but pleased with how it's all starting to come together; I need to sort out plants for this area but not being a gardener am a bit lost at the moment as to what is suitable; the soil is top class. :dunno:

        Kind regards, Colin.

I was hoping to finish the mowing but only managed an hour and a half. It should have taken less time to do the whole lot but there are too many leaves. I can't do raking and as just a single run with the mower more than fills up the box that means too much bending and emptying the box. :old:

I'll need to wait for next Friday when Gary comes to do the raking/blowing.

Having said that, I'm pleased with what I have got done. :)

I cleared the dahlias, emptied some pots, moved various things to the greenhouse, stored the patio furniture, shredded a huge pile of branches, pruned an apple tree, mowed the lawns and tidied up with a leaf blower.
              Garden looks presentable for now!

                  Hi,

Two dry days; WOW; normal service will be resumed today,

                  upload_2023-11-12_7-29-43.png

Looks like an heavy morning after breakfast cramming a days work in before the rain arrives. One planter remaining on the patio with dreaded ivy to sort out; the ivy will be history by dinnertime the planter will be found a new home but not on the patio. In future it will be a pleasure having a clean sweep of the patio without the obstacle course.

I've also a pile of stones to move so the 7C won't be noticed I'll soon warm up.

I've found a problem with the rotavator rebuild; the tine bearings are badly worn needing replacing; I'd tried moving the shaft and the bearings felt OK but now with all the debris removed and the oil seals replaced I now need to strip it again to replace the bearings; I wonder how I'd cope with the shock if something actually went right first time.

There's still a large patch of English ivy half way up the garden beneath the huge spruce tree; it's got to go I'm sick of ivy tormenting me causing so much work. It's nice to be browsing J Parker's website planning what plants to buy; yesterday I planted 18 but I need lots more also I now need a few bags of potting compost to fill the planters I've just emptied; it's starting to get interesting and hopefully most of the heavy work is finally behind me but I'd better not speak too soon.

                  Kind regards, Colin.

From the window, noticed some dame's rocket (various other names) flowering again under an apple tree. I would like to go and smell it, but obstacles. A very pleasing flower. Pic from a while ago.

Another weekend with no work getting done on the balcony! Though tomorrow I have some plants to pot up. Little else to do the next week or two or three ...! :heehee:

Yesterday was sunny and dry. Imagine. We tidied up pots and generally got things ready for winter, given the norm is wet weather for the foreseeable. We also put out a hedgehog home that will I'm sure, be used by our garden mice even if our visiting hedgehog doesn't find it this autumn. There's a good sense of seasons with all that, knowing that in February, we'll be sowing seeds in the conservatory again.

                          Hi,

The rain was lashing across Morrison's car par at 6:45 this morning; not all bad news though; it saves me watering the plants although I might need to add an anchor to each plant.

Success yesterday morning; I cleared the pile of stones I'd dug out and emptied the planter of its ivy; emptying the planter wasn't pleasant it being water logged with stinking water; it was horrible; I'm going to give this planter plus another planter away not wanting to refill saving more work in future.

                          13 Nov 2023_0001.JPG
Waterlogged planter with dreaded ivy; this sure smelled awful when emptied.
                          13 Nov 2023_0003.JPG
More very heavy work; carrying these stones across and up the garden was cheaper than a gym workout but I wouldn't want to do it daily.
                          13 Nov 2023_0005.JPG
I'll get rid of this planter with another planter meaning two less planters to look after.

Yesterday afternoon down came the rain stopping further grafting in the garden. I decided to pop over to Curry's to buy a new 50" Smart TV; wow where's all the traffic; it only took ten minutes but arriving I found where all the traffic was; it was a huge queue trying to get into the retail park; I just hoped I'd live long enough to park up. I was cheeky asking for assistance to take the TV to the car and a staff member obliged carrying it for me; I'm getting soft.

Today unable to work outside I'll take a degree in setting up a smart TV; five year old kids these days have more idea how to go about it than I have; I struggle using a remote.

                          Kind regards, Colin.

It never bothers me to ask for help with moving things. When I go to the nursery to buy compost they always load the car for me and a neighbour unloads it. :)

Saturday; disinfected and rinsed outside of greenhouse, then tidied up the border of one bed and cut a patch of long grass.
Sunday: dodged breezy showers, planted chitted broad beans, potted up some cuttings that have been rooting with a bit of bottom heat and noted that the garlic planted a few weeks ago has popped up.

Started my winter tree pruning today, using the new chainsaw.
It works a treat but I'm not keen using it up a ladder.
Lopped a few lower branches on a horse chestnut.
