    Good day
It is still pitch here and 33f. I am glad that I drained and shut down all of the outside faucets and hoses. I don't have to worry about anything getting frozen and snapping.

I've been reading the news and shaking my head. Yesterday's Remembrance Day services were solemn and those moments of silence, sadly, had me thinking about the sacrifice my father's generation endured while fighting in the war and even more sadly, about the state of things in today's world. We have Palestinian protesters violently destroying property and threatening anyone who isn't costumed in their checkered keffiyeh's. They are jumping on politician's vehicles and making demands over things that Canada has zero control over. I cannot figure out what has happened to my country. Two years ago the cops were arresting peaceful truckers in hot tubs. Where are these security people now?

I hope everyone is having a relaxing sunday. I've decided to just do some bread baking and the laundry and otherwise just be a lady of leisure.

    Cheers :coffee:

Sunday morning all. Chilly here. Two more sleeps in my bed and then its off again on another adventure. Focus packing today etc.
@Flumpy -our recent trip? ---we went to the Poconos, its North of us, very rustic/wood like. Known for "the honeymoon" place. LOL. Saw several awesome Waterfalls, did a few historic tours, discovered the oldest Jazz club in America---I did post that earlier. We used our timeshare week, nice place, two full bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, living room with fireplace, screened in porch. Discovered Llama Ice cream--awesome. And, all around various places were dense Rhodo growing ---thinking of going back end of July to see in bloom.

@Upsydaisy --I continue to do Christmas baking as that is the gifts I give, most my friends have too much "stuff", they like my bakes, the post/mail lady does etc, a few neighbors etc. This year we will be away the week I bake, so will have to get started the moment I get back, that's in December I am referring to (yes another trip).

Have dabbled in the Ancestry stuff over the years, even got one of those DNA things done, very displeased with the DNA results, as they were too general, in other words, could have told them what they told me. I might use the other company, and do it one more time. My last name ---kept my Maiden name---probably was butchered so much from the original spelling, and there are only two in USA with it, so folks may have totally changed it. Did run across someone who's last part of his last name matches mine, so I know where he is from. But, its fun to explore. The company I did the DNA with, comes up with 4th cousins every now and then, you wonder if its a scam though. I know my "real" cousin, direct cousin--used the same company for her DNA and it did not "trigger" an email to me that she was there---so that is why part of me thinks with I get an email of "fourth" cousin I roll my eyes.

We have one cat left from our rescued family of many, she is 19 years old, does not like to stay in side, she has a "heated" cat house placed next to the side of the house on the deck which blocks wind, she gets awesome food everyday, her water sits on and outdoor heat ring to keep it thawed in the winter. Some days recently I think this is her last winter, but some days she looks perky and yells at me to hurry up with her food, she eats well, and drinks well. Its hard to leave her when we go on our adventures, I have a close neighbor who comes over 2X a day to giver her food, check the water level etc. She seems not to miss a beat when we return. But, she has chosen to be where she is, and this property is all she knows all these years.

Its a little after 7 Am. on with my day. Have a good one all.

Question to those of you on these ancestery websites. Can you read about your partners or those alive or only those deceased? Can you see living people that someone else has created? Does that make sense?

Time for lunch ... pancakes and maple syrup, yum..

          Good morning Lori.

I agree what a sorry state these times we're living in are now. I find the news is incredibly sad at the moment in all areas ,not just the horrific images of the conflicts .
What is up with us humans that we can't display, tolerance, empathy and friendly respect for all others from ever walk of life.

Have you access to the site and the family tree? Is the tree subscription active?

I have stopped paying for my tree. It remains on the Ancestry site, but can't be accessed in full.I can do simple maintenance such as add notes on births ,marriages and deaths. I can't look in depth to the hundreds of certificates, newspaper articles etc unless I restart the payments. Which you can do for time periods of between I -12 months+.

I have included basic info on those who are are living , but definitely not in great detail...only date/ place of birth/ marriage, offspring but that is all.
You can also search the Ancestry data base for such basic information on the living, but again only if you have been invited too and have the password.

I hope I've explained it Ok.

I plan to reopen our Tree for a month or 2 to update it with more official records and photos. Not sure when as I have to have time free to get it done within the timeframe.

Nobody has access to our family Trees even if they are paid up members on Ancestry. I have to personally give them the passwords, I recently sent it to my cousin in Canada and she has added the Canadian members of our family to the Tree.
My Uncle gave all of us the password to the Tree he researched.

I was talking about this with my Dad (born 1940) some time ago. I think it's my generation that messed things up.

My Dad's generation recovered from the war, built a prosperous society, worked and studied hard and truly fought for a better world in every sense.

I was born into a society where kids were singing about world peace, about children of any colour having the same colour heart, about respecting nature....

Thanks to our parents, the Cold War ended, down came the Berlin wall and in went the global environmental agreements.

Then my generation inherited the Earth and just look at us now. :frown: And looking forward, we grew a generation of kids who are starting to lose basic interhuman skills and even though many have very strong views of the excellent kind, I'm not sure what kind of leaders we brought up.

Perhaps my generation had it too soft and easy? Perhaps we just focused on increasing prosperity and wealth?

But, here I stop and put my foot firmly down- the world is a wonderful place and most humans are kind, empathetic and wise. And fun. Most people see the miracles of the ordinary. :)

Once your in, paid your membership you can explore any Last name you feel like doing so. I was trying to find a long ago child friend once, recalled her fathers first name and where he last lived, thought that would give me an avenue of where she might be today. Anyway, that's an example.

Agree. Recall years ago a simple thing of not mixing religions were frowned on even if both were of Christian faith. My second mother-in-law made this awesome proclamation that she wished all her children married catholic spouses, (I am not). Like she was so wonderful, LOL. My brother-in-law married to her daughter, he was not catholic--it hurt his feelings like crazy as he was always over at their house helping out. To me she missed out. But she is dead now.
And many years ago, no one would vote for a Catholic President, ever, that was a major no, no. Guess I am saying there are many points of folks in general just not accepting other "slants" on life. I think they think that it will change them, or something, to me its just totally interesting views. The different cultures out there are awesome to get to know, and why they have evolved.
When we look back at what the Nazi did to all those folks, how lots of folks "bought" into that it is scary to know that large groups can become "sheep". Critical thinking has to be supported majorly so none of that ever happens again. People have to stand up for what is right. The recent "masking" was /is still another example of "sheep". The governments testing what it takes to control the masses. Evil is out there we have to maintain the good faith with armor on.

I think you'll find that only very basic info on the living in given out to protect their privacy.....just think if a person had escaped an awful situation to start afresh.

Over here we do have Census info but that is not made public until 100yrs after the info was collected.I used this info a lot as you got to find out where people lived, ages, their occupations and other family members often extended family. Great source of information.

What site is it Vicky !

When I was researching them all 13 yrs ago the ones that claimed to be free meant either a limited free trial period, very limited downloads or they were free to browse but once you found your person or more annoyingly you weren't sure and needed to check deeper....you had to pay to see each individual record.

I wouldn't like to use a free one as it would mean anyone anywhere could easily gain access to your family history.

                          Good afternoon @Selleri .

Nice to have you without your lurkers disguise.:heehee:

I agree, but I do feel that we bear grudges for longer and have become very unforgiving on the whole. There has always been horrible histories , we just have to learn from them and move on.

Have a fab rest of the day.:)

Hmmm I personally don't rate it Vicky.

I did a search for a few family members including my M&D.....zilch.

I only read a few reviews and it looked even worse.
They send you out ' hints' as do most sites but one chap got one linking him with Mary Magdeline and Jesus!!

Another one complained about the fact that you don't own your Family Tree and it's not private so that anyone can ,and do apparently, not only view it but they can even add people to it!!:yikes:

He had people completely unrelated added to 'his'!!!!

So all I can say is take the info with a good pinch of salt and be cautious about adding any info..

                              It is a Mormon site.

We didn't really add any personal info that would harm anyone. I put my Granfather's name in (Maternal) and it put up his parents. My Paternal Grandparents were already there (I never knew them). It also had three of my Dad's wives ... but two were missing. :heehee: But at least I am not deceased any more.
