The large single terrarium (& collection of mediums inside in pic 2) was a gift but the plants weren't suitable and died. Any suggestions for best plants please?

Pic 3 are a couple I've had for several years but I'm stumped to know how to use them the bases are too shallow to plant anything. Guessing they're just for plants in pots that like to keep warm❓ again any suggestions please. TIA

      Hi,

Not one for bottle gardens, though small ferns etc would do well in them, sure others will have better and more varied suggestions.

Finding suitable plants this time of year might be one problem, worth looking around the big supermarkets and B&Q as they do have quiet a few indoor plants on display.

If you get out and about, worth popping over the hills to this place if you have never been, as they have a large indoor plant section all year round, probably our favourite GC.
They have a very wide selection from Air plants to Orchids and Cacti as well as many large and small foilage plants.

The terrariums look wonderful :) I'm green with envy!

How about some carnivore plants that enjoy humidity and don't grow too big? Venus flytrap would look great in the big one.

Curiously shaped succulents would also look great, they don't mind humidity during the growth period and during the rest period the terrarium can be left dry so that should work ok I think.

Very interesting, please do post photos when you have made your mind up @eddybaby :)

Thank you Selleri. Im not over keen on carnivore plants. As I said the succulents that came in the large one I could tell weren't happy. I have a big collection of succulents but I just don't know which would be suitable Am I right in thinking that the two closed terrariums are designed to act like cloches? Again I don't know what to put in them ☹ Thanks again

I planted up an old fishtank many years ago, it was only partly successful as I found most things I tried would get the odd rotten leaf and it was a bit tedious keep trying to remove them.
It was a time when this kind of thing was all the rage and you could buy small 3in pots if miniature plants for the purpose.

I think I used mostly ferns and the only other plants I can remember were types of Hypoestes, polkadot plants.

I think you need trial and error.

Would not really have thought about putting Succulents in such containers as they do prefer dry rather than humid conditions.
Think you might get more inspiration from some of the interesting looking Ytubes on this subject, search 'small terrariums'

Another possible use, a picture we saw the other day, was a clear vase , or one of your terrariums full of water and an offset of a Hosta rooting and growing on in it.
Looked very good with it many roots, when too big then could be planted outside.
We have a couple of miniature Hostas which would good all year round like that.

Fittonias and peperomias don't get too big and have decorative leaves. I would avoid anything with hairy leaves as they would be prone to moulds.
A second thought - what about trying a moss garden? You could collect moss from round and about of different kinds and make a kind of carpet. One of my favourite books is 'Moss Gardeno

            Opps! pressed return too early!
'Moss Gardening' by George Schenk. Probably out of print now but you could get a second hand copy perhaps.
