@Sheal Mrs Shiney has been gluten free for years and I do most of the cooking from scratch (one of my hobbies). We rarely have chips but I do buy them frozen. McCain's Naked chips are gluten free :blue thumb: Naked Oven Crinkle Cut Chips | Vegan-Friendly | McCain Foods Their crinkle cut chips tend to cook more evenly than their straight chips and have an extra 1%of oil per 100gm.

I even managed to persuade a local pub that has a good restaurant to fry their fish in chick pea (gram) flower which is gluten free. Is Chickpea Flour / Gram Flour Gluten-Free? | BeyondCeliac.org.
They even went over to cooking all fried foods with gram flower after finding it gives a better result. It did put the price up marginally.

Indian restaurants only use gram flower when making onion bhajis.

Kings Arms in Killingworth is the place for you then @Sheal

My friend has coeliacia and it is indeed a hassle to eat out. Some places don't really have a clue which means risking being poorly, and some make such a big deal that she is embarrassed.

Last Christmas dinner in the work canteen went that way, my friend brought her own gravy to heat in the microwave and was selecting the bits she wanted when the canteen chef spotted the gravy. She then whisked my friend's plate away, disappeared into the kitchen to slice fresh turkey because the one on counter might have touched the stuffing balls etc etc.

Best intentions of course, but usually it's just best to listen to the person's own wishes and not to make a show.

I'm grateful for being able to eat anything without issues, apart from anything with slimy texture that is.

I suspected Mrs Shiney was gluten free from things that you've mentioned along the way. I'd love to sit at your table and enjoy your hobby, as well as yours and Mrs Shiney's company of course. :)

Yes, some chips are genuinely gluten free but my health issues are complicated and frozen chips give me heartburn. I can't eat beef, oils are taboo, and fats and spices are kept to a minimum.

I've not tried chick pea flour for two reasons. The first being - my brother has kept racing pigeons for many years and chick peas are part of their diet. It's the thought of eating what I consider to be bird food that puts me off. Second - I've tried them but didn't like them. I use Doves Farm rice flour.

Thank you but that's rather a long round trip for me to eat out @Selleri. :) Restaurants have reduced their menu's considerably in recent years with many having the same items listed. Beef dominates menu's now but I can't eat it. On most occasions I would rely on gammon as a 'go to' but that's rarely seen now.

Thankfully I don't have Coeliac disease but I can't tolerate gluten, as well as various other foods, so my diet is strict and boring.

Exactly. They have no idea what foods people can or can't tolerate. I realise they are trying to help but it's not that simple and they always seem to think they know best.

What do I miss most being gluten free? Crusty bread and pork pies!

The Royal Mail has been fined £5.6 m for missing delivery targets.
I sent someone a parcel recently, and paid for it to go 1st class. It should have got there the next day but it didn't.
I complained to the R M after a few days because there were plants in the parcel, and they told me to wait 10 days.
The parcel was delivered on the 9th day. A poor service :frown:

I often wonder who ends up paying these kinds of fines.
Ultimately the service just gets worse and the customer pays, either in money or a declining service.

There needs to be another way of sorting these companies out rather that just taking money from them, I'd also like to know who gets their sticky fingers on the 5.6million.

We have issues regarding our letter posting. It seems that to ensure the letters/ cards arrive on time then it's best to post them about 10 days in advance. Awful when you consider the price of postage.

Had a rough day? What about this bloke -

A Japanese man has been left disappointed after real dogs shunned and refused to play with him at the park.

The man who is known as Toco had spent millions to turn him self into a dog using an ultra-realistic costume due to his love for looking like dogs.

Simple! Fine the people at the top of the company and monitor the company accounts to see that they don't take it back from the company. :ideaIPB:

They would then resign with a massive golden handshake, we need to break this business model of those at the top having contracts which mean large payouts should they get sacked.
The people who make the rules need to be the first to go.

I guess it could be contingent on the legal fines that payouts are restricted.

Ahhh, but they wont do that, because those that make the rules might, themselves, end up in a similar situation at some point.
So justice is only seen to be done.

I think the real people are just never going the break the "Old Boy" way the country and business is run.
They all look after one another while pretending we have some kind of say.
