    A cutworm is pretty much just a moth caterpillar of which there are kazillions of them and you find them everywhere. Seeing as it was on a dahlia, I assumed it was a dahlia cutworm!

    Water soluble caterpillars? Great idea, I wish my slug population would take a leaf out of that book :biggrin:
    The thing sort of looks like a moth larvae. It's not hairy at all and is out and about quite late in the season. :scratch:
