The percentage increase is payed on your current in hand pension cash NOT your pension accumulation whilst you are employed
Therefor it's you current weekly cash amount NOT your current total pension accumulated so far

Just discovered our council are raising the fee for a green waste bin to £70 per bin!

They'll be queuing to dump it in lay-bys and b-roads after this

They probably want to stop doing the collections, soon they will say the uptake is so low they will not be doing it anymore.

No space for a compost heap? It might be cheaper to buy a chipper.

Around 10 years ago our council decided to stop garden bin collections and offered a sort of subscription service for those who wanted a collection, done in bags.

Just before they collected the bins away someone unexpectedly came to their senses and stopped the whole scheme. :thud:

The reason was that actually the council benefits from residents gardening, it's healthy (especially good activity for older people), makes places look well tended and offers green havens for wildlife.

And in fact, after that the council has indeed invested in quite clever green schemes, including roadside meadows, public lawns with a meadow area in the middle ( seeded with interesting flowers and properly maintained), relocating a new housing estate plan to preserve a green corridor etc.

They subsidise solar panels and insulations, new building sites have partially open drainage systems landscaped as natural streams and ponds, dug out earth is used for artificial hills to gather excess rain and act as noise barriers (and roly poly spots).

I'm rather impressed to be honest :)

We're fortunate that our council collect our green waste every week free of charge. They learnt their lesson some years ago when they attempted to charge for it.

Same. All the prickly stuff and perennial weeds I'd rather bin. I'll just carry on putting the green bin out and see if they notice I haven't paid

My neighbours put theirs out for two years without paying, the blokes on the truck don't bother checking who has paid, as a rule.
