I went on to our Doctors site to update our telephone number, but discovered it had already been done. Odd in that neither of us has done it and we have only had that number for a short time and never rung the surgery on it. We have updated our Bank details as we needed a phone number to get a reference number to pay a bill. So the question is, how has our phone number magically appeared on the medical profile?

Are you talking about your landline or mobile phone ?

Either way it does sound rather implausible that it could have been changed without your action.

Could some other family member / close friend have done it for you ?

It might just be that one of you did it earlier but simply forgotten if consumed with other problems, easily done as we know !!

I find updating details a PIA, they always want to know its you, so you end up jumping through lots of hoops before getting it done.

They got it from somewhere, someone.
    NHS site perhaps.

Think any surgery or similar would be in deep dodo if they allow a patient numbers to be changed without expressed authorisation /confirmation.

I would be very miffed if personal information was changed like that, I would ask the surgery how it has been updated without your authority.

This is a new mobile phone number. I could not have done it as I have no idea what the number is. It is on her phone and I do not use it. She would remember doing it and in any case we only lost the land line (which was the contact number for the surgery) a couple of weeks ago. It is very odd. No where else seems to have picked up the number either.

One thing I've noticed recently when I ring a number I've never used before, such as booking a meal at a new restaurant, the name of the restaurant was shown with the tag 'SMART'. Somehow company names and maybe residential names and addresses are now being sent through the ether.

The only reason I mentioned the NHS was because I can log into Lloyds pharmacy via my NHS log in, or via a specific Lloyds log in, which suggests to me details are being shared between even a pharmacy and the NHS if the same happens with GP surgeries I dont know.

That surprised us @pete, wondered if that could be so ?!

However seems LloydsDirect are contacted to the NHS and it allows you to use your NHS log in.
