Be careful what you wish for!
Not only would they trash your tidiest borders, you would likely lose your hedghogs and find latrines in the most unsuitable areas. Badgers (and foxes) should not be encouraged into urban areas, the potential risks to pets and plantings are not inconsiderable.

Just near the allotment, there was a big wasp's nest, about 1' (304.8mm) below the surface. A badger dug up almost all of it, to eat the larvae. They must have very tough nozzles, ears...

Here are some short videos. I did not get a picture of the allotment one, but luzzing a handful of stones in there gave rise to lots of buzzing!

Here's one of another badger actually in action, digging up a bumble bees' nest:

I have had a number of occasions when I've gone down the garden to find a hole in the ground with a fair number of seriously annoyed wasps or bees. One year they even dug into a stone bank to get at a bee's nest.

They are very good powerful diggers, even in "stone banks". My relative, years ago, set a snare in a Cornish hedge, to catch a fox. Going out in the early morning, he found he'd caught a badger around the waist, and it was most unhappy about its situation. It had pulled down half the hedge, and there was stone strewn all over the lane. By the time he'd got back with his gun, it had removed even more hedge, dug out the peg, which had loosened the wire, and it was nowhere to be seen!

What was he going to do with the gun?

                      Hi,

Garden out of bounds today; heavy frost and patio sheet ice making it highly dangerous; only another six months then the weather should improve but I'm not betting on it. Years ago in mid summer as I built the garden hut I suffered lots of heavy rain and one day hailstones with slimy slugs for company; the temperature was below 10C. Will 2024 be any better. :dunno:

                      Kind regards, Colin.

Went out and filled up the bird feeders and gave them some clean water.

All I do these days is open the greenhouse and shelter doors and windows in the morning for ventilation, and close them before it goes dark.

                              Hi,

Did the water freeze over @Logan; our water dishes on the patio have been frozen solid all day so no point in refilling with water only for them to instantly freeze. Warmer weather is forecast later in the week which I'm eagerly looking forward to.

Not in the garden but in the workshop I serviced both my 20" petrol chainsaws and replaced the chain on one of them; this afternoon I enjoyed a violin practice which didn't go too well; the "A" string didn't want to play as it should most likely down to lack of practice on my part; it was good though to get into the studio and make a bit of noise.

                              Kind regards, Colin.
