    Hi,

Due to problems with the hifi radio tuner, was looking to try the internet for our usual radio stations , but seems for some of the most popular stations , every time you try to Play them you are asked to sign up for this Global Player.

However it gets very poor feedback for quality / service and slated for wanting a lot of personal info to fully register.
They say you can log in with F,X etc but we do not use them either.

Wondered how folk listen to these internet radio stations ?

the only one I have found was the Oakney Scotland station, hope I spelled that correctly. Its the little town very North in Scotland. Visited that town on my Scotland trip. Do enjoy the accents etc. I think you find it by first exploring BBC radio, or something like that.

Do you mean Orkney @redstar? It's not a little town, you are probably talking about the Orkney Islands.

I just listen to my favourite via Google. No issues at all. Having said that, it's not the BBC as they blocked access here in Europe years ago.

Thanks all, think we have found a good free player here, seems we can listen to almost every station in the uk without having to log in, the exception being for the BBC programs.

Could be, its located very north part of Scotland. And guess they are islands, been a while since I thought of it. Was there many years ago with my first "tour" group. Has a sweet church that an Italian builder built on it for his "love". Cute little village area. But spelling is close enough that google will find it.

I noticed on You Tube , can open up some albums "free" and just play them. Just pick the artist .

When we travel about USA, I love finding local stations on the car radio to hear the small town news, and listen for accents.

Medium wave, is that still working?
I always thought long wave was clearer, but for some reason everything was crammed on medium wave.

I'm going back more than 40 yrs now.

Radio 2 was 1500 metres long wave.
Radio one was 247 medium wave.

I do remember the Light programme and BBC home programme back in the day.
