A final day of house cleaning, I have to leave the house scrubbed and sparkling whenever we go away especially the bathrooms and kitchen so the house has a very festive aroma of.....bleach.... as all the waste bins are enjoying a leisurely soak. :roflol:

These public consultation exercises - it turns out - sometimes - the powers that be do take notice of what the public say :thud:. The decision to cut back our local fire station staffing has been reversed - because the public said 'no'.

        Who would have thought that...

I saw on the news that it is the 60th anniversary of the Lakonia disaster (actually in two days time). It was a Greek cruise ship that caught fire on the night of the 22nd whilst it was seven hours away from Madeira. 128 people died.

We were also on our way to pass by Madeira (I worked on the ships in those days) and were called to assist in the rescue. I can never forget the call for emergency help and we tried to increase our speed as much as possible. When we got there all the survivors had just been rescued and it was just a matter of looking for bodies. We weren't needed at that stage so went back to our programmed route and arrived home on Boxing Day not feeling much like celebrating the holiday period.

Spurred on by the results from the Fire Service consultation - I've just completed the Waste Recycling public consultation questionnaire.

We must be a right load of opinionated moaning old gits around here - they've already had close to 3,000 responses.

I know your case is probably very different to mine, but I was 10ft up a ladder earlier cutting back trees, if you had told me that would be possible just 6 weeks ago I would have been sceptical, but if you keep pushing the boundaries just a little bit every day its amazing how the body heals itself, the trick is to not push so hard that you end up unable to do anything the next day or two.

This looks interesting - might buy a share or two as a punt. In the long term - energy prices won't be going down.

In a significant move for renewable energy in the UK, Julie James, the Welsh Government’s Minister for Climate Change, has approved the development of a 30MW solar farm. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

The project, led by YnNi Newydd, a community benefit society, is set to be the largest community-owned solar farm in the UK. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

Local residents and organisations will have the opportunity to become shareholders and part-owners of the farm, earning interest on their shares. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

This morning we went to.... 20231222_123656.jpg

I wanted to go last time but couldn't fit it in.....loved it ,just my cup of tea.

Just a 'few' ( ;)) pics....some room layouts depicting bygone years....ranging from the 1600's to the Millennium. Taking the pics did prove difficult at times due to having a lot of visitors...some rooms I unfortunately had to skip.

A couple of 'poems ' I don't agree with...but hey, sadly it's part of our history. Sorry to read you'll need to zoom in . This was centered on family life within the home. 20231222_122128.jpg 20231222_122507.jpg
This was about families and how sharing mealtimes were a big part of their daily routine.
                    20231222_121741.jpg

Next a couple of relics of the not so distant pass..way to many to take pics of.

This our son found and thought it very funny..a pic of our 3 piece suite in our little family snug lounge...keep saying that we must replace it but it's so comfy and has moulded to our body shapes so perfectly!!! :roflol:
                    It's the blue one, top left-hand corner..soon to celebrate it's 30th birthday!:birthday:
The photo looks awful and doesn't do our faithful old friend justice at all.:nonofinger:

After lunch we went to Spitalfields Market.... lots of tasty samples to be enjoyed as we worked our way around. YUM! 20231222_132746.jpg 20231222_132751.jpg 20231222_133354.jpg 20231222_133452.jpg
Again difficult to take pics as I don't like pointing my camera at people...and it was packed !!

Did some food shopping at m&s as we are going to the lake District for Xmas. Mainly eating in pubs and restaurants but did get some nice cheeses, pate, seafood for some lighter meals. Also cooked a small ham today

It was fairly busy as you'd expect

Wonderful place, thanks for sharing @Upsydaisy ! :) That went straight on my list of places to visit.

Have you read Bill Bryson's "At Home"? It's a tale of the home as we know it and how it was, room by room, century and culture after another. It's also fun and entertaining read.
