Care of Spanish Dagger

Hi all. This one is steadily growing, but slowly. It has multiple 'branches'. It was planted by a landscaper many years ago, when it was much smaller and I had no idea what it was. I'd be grateful for thoughts on general care and whether trimming in any way is viable or desirable. Many thanks in advance. Chris

 

I tend to leave them to their own devices, but if I do trim I take out a whole stem.
They just look awful if you start cutting back the leaves in my opinion.

I never trim mine.

 

They always get planted where, once they mature, they overhang an area where you have to walk near!
Also, when you take out a whole stem, it does encourage multiple stems to take it's place.
I still take out the whole stem though, like Pete said.....just I have a pint or two of B pos ready so I don't bleed to death!
It looks like yucca colour guard, which is one of the more attractive cultivars

 

Hi all. I hope that you're having a civilised festive week. Further to my post, I've decided to (as best as possible) get rid of it. I guess that if it were cut to the base, it would start to re-sprout as yuccas do. So - is there a treatment of sorts that could be applied to the stumps to finish the job off?

You could try glyphosate, although I'd prefer to dig it out.
Not sure how well SBK would work.

 

Do you think the roots would be very deep, @pete ?

 

Not sure to be honest, but I think if you get most of it out and dont leave any stem I dont think it will sucker from any root that is left behind.
