Managed to dodge the heavy downpours which thankfully don't last long and are soon replaced by lovely sunshine.

Cleared the border of soggy dead follage, revealing a lot of bulbs breaking through the soil.
Checked out all the overwintering plants in the cold frames and greenhouse.:blue thumb:

Checked the greenhouse, cleared away some dead leaves to reduce places for mildew, and watered a few big plants sparingly eg caviar lime.
Then put new feeder in garden. It claims to be squirrel proof and keeps out heavy birds like pigeons and jackdaws which grab everything here. Time will tell.

          Hi,

          I missed adding this picture yesterday;

          29 Dec 2023_0001_01.JPG
It was a struggle rotavating up the steep slope in wet soil; the wheels lost lots of their grip; I kept using a screwdriver to clear the soil away but just smiled and carried on; I was amazed the rain kindly let up for an hour giving me the brief window of opportunity to do the rotavating; the wind however kindly kept me company and ensured I didn't get too hot; it was perishingly cold as it buffeted me around.

I can relax now until next springtime when I rotavate again before broadcasting new wildflower seed; it's worth the frustration and hard work to see the meadows in full bloom. They do say you only get out what you put in.

Today at last with nothing hanging over me demanding my time I can spend a few hours in the studio practicing violin playing; it's been a long time coming.

          Kind regards, Colin.

I have some broad beans in pots to go outside but it is too wet. Can't wait to get started on the new year's gardening!

I got the hose out and did some watering then sat by the pond with a few beers until the sun went down.
Oh no, now I think about it that was 6 months ago.

                      Ditto!

It is below freezing so all I did was make sure my pots that are indoors and with seeds are watered. I think I'm in the mood for a Lowenbrau. Haven't had one of those in months and I best not let them go off...

All I did yesterday was clearing some debris from the last gale - lots of dead and broken branches from the tall old trees - and I shall check today for more debris after last night's gale.

I also did some pruning and cutting back of Clematis and then struggled removing the obstinate growth from the plastic netting supports. The 1.5" square heavy duty netting is fixed to the beams below the summerhouse guttering so required using steps to work on it. Not normally a problem but the section fronting the lawn was awkward to get to as the lawn was too soft and muddy to support the steps.

With some stretching I managed it but I left the three bird nests that I found although I don't think they will be occupied again. There's no harm in leaving them :)

                          Hi,

Another wet black hole; all I can do is look out over the garden and dream on.

                          Kind regards, Colin.

I've jumped ahead and sown my plant world seeds. Fritillaria(meleagras, pallidiflora, raddeana), lantana, mecanopsis and acanthus mollis.

The germination with some can take up to 6 months or more so perhaps sooner is better :fingers crossed:
