I realise that your post was an extract but did it actually say that?

Could it be that the hottest year was one of the two that weren't in the last three years?

Last spring and early summer was incredibly warm and dry imo. The rest was wet and mild by and large

Just what we needed to ease us off reliance on Putin's gas.

Not sure the UK has ever been dependent on Russian gas, the UK price of gas went up in 2022 due to disruption of supplies from Russia as did everyone elses.
The bulk of our natural gas comes from Norway these days, with Quatar supplying 39% of the LNG we import. See here Where Does The UK Get Its Gas From? Latest News & Figures
Given the current state of the world I'd be more concerned about Quatari supplies going phut.

I think these averages are always misleading, as for starters its the whole of the uk, so the bigger the area the more misleading and skewed it all becomes.
So if its warmer than average up north and only average down south then they will say the year has been warmer than average.

Also a warm couple months when the rest of the year is pretty usual completely throws the figures.

I think you can manipulate figures to say whatever you want them to, just look how quickly the government got through the backlog of asylum seekers.

Now back on topic: For me last here dry spring followed by a warm dry start to the summer then it rained for the rest of the year, but temperatures weren't particularly cold and the nights were generally mild.

Fake data to enforce the climate change agenda / taxation / regulation / corporate governance.

Did anyone really think this year was the second hottest they'd experienced here in the UK?

I had a Great May And June. Then came July and grey cloud almost every day since then.

The data is only from the met office, would be better if there was other independent organisation's keeping records for comparison.

During the months of December, Siberia has been recording temperatures of -70, the lowest in decades. Sweden and Finland this year are recording some of the lowest temperatures in 25 years, yet we don't tend to hear about it.

Sweden hit by extreme cold as 1,000 vehicles trapped by snow overnight

Think climate change means more extreme weather - hotter, colder, wetter etc. and we’re certainly getting that.

                          °F or °C?

May be see here https://wmo.int/ will take them a couple of months to collect and correlate the data.
Or may be https://climate.nasa.gov/ or https://www.noaa.gov/ admittedly both US The IMF keeps data Climate Change Indicators Dashboard as does the World Bank.
