Hi, Has anyone used either of these ceramic watering probes ? any good ? Tropf Blumat Ceramic Probe Blumat Automatic Pot Plant Waterers
TWE have been selling them for a few years so assumed they would be good for them to keep stocking such products. Found Amazon also selling them including this extra deep type for larger pots. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sustainabl...r_1_19?keywords=Blumat&qid=1704898398&sr=8-19 Might be worth ordering a couple to test out before summer.. Edit - Just ordered a couple of those ceramic inline drippers - will post results..
Well after 2 weeks and 3 days finally received the two Ceramic probes and fittings from TW&E. Why they took so long for goods they said are in stock and charge £6.99 for a small lightweight jiffy bag ?? not even the couriers fault, they delivered next day. Just set them up in the greenhouse on two actively growing plants so will see how it goes. You start things off wet so will probably take a couple of day to see how they react as things dry. Am just using a water bottle with a tank connector, positioned 3ft above the pots. Videos - Tropf-Blumat
I haven't bought anything from Two Wests and Elliot for years, they used to be spot on regarding delivery and quality. I think the original people handed the company over, its probably gone downhill since then, its what usually happens.
As mentioned started 2 x 5" pots each with their own probes the other week. To start, the probes are filled with water and need to be placed into wet compost, as the compost dries it openes the little valve to allow the fresh water to flow. This has happened just once for both pots in the last week or so and seems to have done a good job, no excess found in the saucer. Clearly needs much warmer/drier weather to operate and be adjusted effectivley but it does seem a practical method, free of any power or mains water supply. One sensor can be daisy chained with several drippers so you may not need that many sensors, depending on your plants/pots/beds, though it does seem more suited to greenhouse pots rather than large outdoor pots, tubs or beds. Have ordered one of the longer probes for a tomato pot in the summer. This time ordered from a different company and it arrived next working day. Tropf Blumat Sensors | Ecothrive - Exceptional Organic Products Was chatting to another member and he was looking at this system , though there are similar ones on Amazon for a fraction of the price. Their big advantage is they do pump Up the water from a tank but its just on a purely timed basis, not as the plant needs like the Blumat system.
