What have you given up trying to grow?

When I was working in a school the police gave us some grow lights they had taken off some cannabis growers. I brought on early tomatoes for a few years under them. The only problem was they were 500W so would burn seedlings if you put them too close. Not to mention the cost of the electric! (but I wasn't paying). Now I have 20W led lights at home. Just enough for a few pots in the windowsill.

 

can't think of anything I've given up on totally , I were going to give up on eremurus after last season but a unexpected success has encourage me to plod on . I am going to try some more protea and some other plants which are totally unsuitable for my conditions .

 

Everything that deer find tasty! Even the few roses I have are now in pots close to the house wall.

Every so often I say "Right! That's it! Never trying X again". X has been lithops (slugs ate them all just after germination), eremurus, (rotted), various Australian plants (too damp), embothrium (me too @pete ), gentians and loads of others. I've been gardening over 55 years so I've had loads of failures. But then ... Something happens like my sudden success with cleome (like @Perki and eremurus), and I go "Well, if I managed this, then maybe I should try X again". The fight continues.

 

I think I've given up growing Lillies I say 'think' because I've tried to give up growing them before every year they get over run with Lily beetles I've tried every trick in the book yet the little don't give up.

 

Hi @lolimac I have found that the beetles do not bother with my lilium tigrinum (lancifolium). I'm not sure if it's because the leaves are thicker, but my other lilies have to be checked all the time or they get ravaged, yet the tigrinum go untouched.

Actually I get lily beetles on Fritillarias. I always forget to look for them before they make those horrible larvae. mind you the larvae are easy to catch. You have to sneak up on the beetles and put something under them to fall into when they jump off the leaves. I gave away my lily bulbs last year because the risk of the pollen making the cats poorly.
