I've always thought it's more about looking good rather than survival, I've hung on to far too many plants that refuse to die but look rubbish.

Yea I think I'm guilty of that too pete, I just hate the thought killing a plant. I did take a cutting from one of the less manky looking Snake plants about 3 months ago....still looking ok.:fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

I've read something similar somewhere but never heard anything like that from any of my family, parents or anyone else, except for one aunt who used to slap my cousin until you could see the red marks of her hand on his arms and legs.

When I was little one day and my aunt was slapping my cousin (we're about the same age) I told her to stop, and she said 'If you don't watch out you'll have the same'. My mother wiped the floor with her and said 'If you touch my child I'll do the same thing back to you, and we'll see how you'll like it'. And that's the only time I ever remember my mother being 'nasty'.

Actually I don't think it's at all funny, but then I've suffered from bullying (and that's by boys and girls) so anything like that goes against the grain with me.

Its not necessarily bullying its just stupid things Mothers say to their kids , or used to, probably not allowed these days.
"If you fall off that wall and break your legs, don't come running to me", was the classic one.

As far as I'm concerned it is bullying. It's the words of someone impatient, who doesn't care about frightening their child with threats, and that to me is bullying.
It's what bullies do, they frighten you with threats. I suffered years of it and it isn't funny.

I don't wish to offend but I do think the word 'Bullying' is banded around far too often these days.
My mum said a few of those things ..they were all tongue in cheek .I had the most wonderful kind, gentle Mother anyone could wish for .:wub2:

I used to get told off quite a few times when I was a kid, even got a hiding on the odd occasion, they were still giving out the cane in schools back then as well.
If you had it coming, and in most cases you probably did.:biggrin::biggrin:

It just makes you more resilient to knocks in later life.

But all within reason of course and not like some of the cases you hear of these days.

I was bullied. That's what's made me resilient. Don't try bullying me now, that's all I can say.

My mother said most of them, bar No 3.
I never understood No 6 as any accident that resulted in exposed underwear would have removed the difference between dirty and clean.

I have been involved in two accidents, one a slip and fall and one a car accident, where I was taken to hospital and admitted ... in such a state on both occurrences where a nurse had to totally undress me and several move me from gurney to bed! We have many male nurses here. ;)
