I've still got this record in my cupboard. :heehee: It's about 70 years old.

Damp day here so may try to dodge the the rain and continue the prepping of the borders, tidy up the greenhouse ..that for some strange reason gets so untidy...and It's only me who uses it!!:noidea:  When room is cleared on one of the benches I will sow a couple more trays too. :)

That is the one about the slippery elm

A great big tree grows near our house
It's been there quite some time
This tree's a slipp'ry elm tree and very hard to climb
But when my wife starts after me, up in that tree I roost
I go up like a healthy squirrel and never need no boost
The other day a woodman came to chop the refuge down
And carve it into kindling wood, to peddle 'round the town
I says to him, "I pray thee cease, desist, refrain and stop
Lay down that razor, man, chop not a single chop"
              (Chorus:)
              Woodman, woodman, spare that tree
              Touch not a single bough
For years it has protected me
              And I'll protect it now

              Etc.

I went out and fixed a cold frame cover. Then I pulled up a lot of patio stones and re-laid them in the same spots so as to squash the grass overgrowing them. And since it was so lovely, I slouched around and picked up a few leaves that have suddenly appeared and would most like choke out grass that I do want to keep growing.

I also admired how the sun was beaming down on my solar panels. My batteries are loving it!

Due to enforced DIY shopping, I only had a couple of hours in the garden this afternoon  I pollarded my Chitalpa tashkentensis pretty severely and spent some time chopping the resulting branches and twigs in situ. The policy here now is to use everything in the way of woody prunings to create a coarse mulch, without carting debris to the bonfire or compost heaps. I find the shredder of limited use as only long, straight stems and branches go in easily, so a pair of loppers and secateurs do the job just as well.

                            Hi,

Excellent @shiney. :dbgrtmb: Yes I've spared the big oak tree and feel better for it; I'll put up with the leaves and acorns; if it becomes wind damaged I just hope it doesn't land on our bungalow roof

I used to have a selection of old records; here's the Ultra Tiger TRF 1931 gram I fully restored many years ago; I still have this gram but forget the last time I switched it on.

On Thursday we had 2" of snow; Friday yesterday the snow disappeared washed away with rain now Saturday everything's awash outside with lots of puddles. Only another three months then perhaps better weather will arrive. :fingers crossed:

                            Kind regards, Colin.

                              Hi,

Amazingly I've just raked over both the top and side wildflower meadows; all being well I can broadcast the new seed then forget these until Autumn. The middle meadow still requires rotavating but it's much too wet after the snow melted. I've just come indoors and it's started to rain; at least it left me alone whilst I was doing the raking. I hope the middle meadow dries out over the next few days then I can complete the meadow job; I'm in front this year so far no thanks to our dire climate.

It's turned into another miserable; wet dark day.

                              Kind regards, Colin.

Been a bit under the weather lately, especially under this weather. :frown:

Managed to do a good houseplant round though, and hung the Passiflora (that were supposed to be Morindas who yet again remain unsprouted...) up.

                                passiflora.jpg

I learnt the hanging up trick some years ago after getting sick and tired of wobbly pots with top heavy support sticks on the windowsill. A long piece of string tied around the pot and tied to the curtain rod with plenty of spare length works well, and if the climber seedlings need more supported height they go net to the patio doors with an extension tied to the string to reach the curtain pole above the doors. If they grow past that, I'm in trouble.

Anyways, I'm not quite sure what to do with the Passifloras, I bought the seeds as an impulse buy when ordering the (:wallbanging: ) Morinda seeds. Basically I want a Passiflora as a houseplant but the slight nag is that 1) I don't have a place for one, let alone three and 2) I'm moving houses soon so need heavy duty decluttering.

Plus, I remember a Passiflora I passed every day in Italy, it grew through a heavy iron gate and had bent the iron bars into spectacular shapes. :yikes:

Anyways, I hope my health and the weather pick up a bit, there are loads of enjoyable tasks waiting in the garden. :)
