Well not much outside as it's wet but I have some lettuce and pea seedlings coming up and have sown radish, turnip and shallot seeds in the propagator plus 5 seeds of Real seeds House tomato in the hopes of getting some early crops. Dug out the grow lights to help them out a bit too.

 

You will never need it.

 

I made a bunch more soil blocks and have sown maroon Sylvia's, red Sylvia's, white and pink lavatory, yellow columbine, marigolds (only had 8 seeds) and 4 cannabis seeds.

The first sowing of lantana were a no show so I've sown a second trysie.

 

Hope you do well with the colourful Lavatory, it sounds great.
What temperature are you germinating the Lantana at, they like it warm and can be slow.IMO.

 

Tackled the drive bed today...pruned Vitex, Cornus, Perovskia, Ballota, Indigofera, Hibiscus and Robinia. Chopped the Miscanthus. Pleased to see relatively few weeds thanks to the policy of chopping prunings in situ. The soil is becoming a lovely dark colour as well The Chamaecyparis nootkatensis pendula planted 13 years ago as the central feature is finally showing signs of settling in and putting on some growth. The Agaves will be tidied up tomorrow, and runners pulled out. Self-sown Eschscholzia, Dianthus and Cerinthe will give early colour and then Zinnias and Mesembryanthemum will follow on. It's absolutely nothing like I originally planned

Will the tap ever get a new washer. Still under water after yet more overnight rain. There's still plenty of time for snow. Perhaps I should channel all the water running down our steep site and install a water turbine; I know if I did though it wouldn't rain again.

He doesn't like me pruning his roses,he thinks that I'll prune too much, last year i had to be supervised pruning them.

 

I think that my verbena bonariences are coming up, they do take a long time. I thought that i might have spoilt the seeds by putting them in the fridge in the seed packet in a sealed plastic bag.

 

I'd given up on mine a couple of years ago...free packet from magazine...but fortunately didn't throw out. They eventually came up in August so I planted out with little hope. However they've self seeded every year since.

Yes I have only ever had to sow VB once, a few years back and now they just happily self seed and I just move them to where I want them. I less sowing job to do .

 

Raining for the last few days so can't do much outside - today tidying up, forking over the to be flower beds and supping tea.

Wandered back into the conservatory and WHAM - this cheeky chappie was looking up at me from the seed tray. She is Calendula Geisha Girl - the 2024 season has officially kicked off...

During this rare spell without rain I've just tired myself out clearing a car load of garden debris to the tip. Having cleared out over eighty bin bags of ivy I bought large heavy duty bags through eBay



I bought the largest but WOW when they are filled they sure are heavy; these I've used this morning. I also removed another eight hollies; it's amazing how many of these hollies I've pulled out the tallest was about 6'.

All the apprentice's were out on the way to the tip digging holes in the road with four lots of temporary traffic lights; Penistone Road is never clear of temporary traffic lights.

The gardens are now tidy and all rubbish cleared; I hope I'm in for an easier time this year after 36 years of hard labour.
