Just finished 'The Cornish Village Murder' by Fiona Leitch. An 'easy to get along with' read. No author had so far matched Richard Osman - but this comes pretty close. There are 7 books in this series and I'm about to dive into book 3 - so that says something in itself.

@clanless I'll have to check if our library has that series. Sounds fun.

I've been playing checkers with sewing patterns. I have various stacks of fabric and keep trying to match patterns that would be the best for each. And I keep changing my mind.

For you crochet artists, I saw this on fb and thought it a perfect mix for both of your talents, gardening and fabric art!

I'm dealing with renewal of all our insurances. The search hasn't been as bad as expected :blue thumb:

I was pleased to read this. Not only does the Duchy of Cornwall voluntarily pay tax on its profits - but the Prince is looking to provide for the homeless. The land will be provided for free and the Duchy will also pay for construction of the houses. I think that he will be a worthy successor to the throne.

Prince William has announced plans to build 24 homes on Duchy of Cornwall land to help tackle homelessness.

The Duchy said the construction of the homes in Nansledan, Newquay, would begin in September and the first homes are due to be completed in autumn 2025.

Lovely walk this morning, spring is definitely pushing in in spite of frosty nights. :)

We cut some flowering Hawthorn twigs to bring home and I stole some cuttings of a very attractive Vinca that has escaped beneath the garden fence towards the adjacent field.

Bullfinches are now everywhere, eating the swelling buds. We also admired the parakeets with an elderly couple- for some reason Sunday walks are very sociable and everybody says hello or stops for a chat.

Found something that looks very much like a badger sett in the woods by the field.

This is city life to my liking :)

              Perhaps apart from this...

Coming home late each evening this week - Sunday to Thursday - I have had to stop on our road because the deer were wandering slowly backwards and forwards across the road to the fields either side. I don't know what they are protesting about but I bet they haven't got a licence for protest marches approved by the local authority. :nonofinger:

Just finished 'The Perfect Cornish Murder'. This book get 8/10. At one point it shifted gear into more of a romantic novel - but soon moved back to the murder mystery genre. I'm about to dive into book 4 - so the author is doing well to maintain my interest.

Just as a side note - I'm reading the kindle versions using a 10" tablet - so much easier than reading a paperback. I find the small print in physical books more difficult to read. Kindle versions are, for me, better.

Quote from the Which? web site..

It's a common misconception that if a kettle boils faster, it must use more energy. However, our extensive testing shows that this absolutely isn't the case.

In fact, most of our Eco Buy kettles have been awarded the title because of their speedy boiling. If a kettle is able to reach boiling point in around three minutes, it will use far less energy than one that takes four or five minutes to boil the same amount.

I dont believe this. How does a kettle use less energy to boil water? Surely energy input is constant for the same amount of water. Any ideas what they are on about?

Doesn't make any sense to me unless the quick boil ones have some kind of insulation.

If the energy input into the kettle is the same, then the shorter usage time indeed uses less energy.

The explanation must be in the efficiency- the faster boiling kettle may have different materials ensuring better heat transfer, or different shape to achieve the same, or a design to minimise loss via vapour and heat leak.

The tests that Which? do are quite stringent and follow accepted scientific methods for determining their results. :blue thumb:

I dont think they are telling us everything that they know in that headline.

Surely they added the "reason" somewhere along the way.
