Emt attacks will be used imho . Just let chaos destroy France UK and Germany. No need for nukes. One mistaken big target hit in Russia by the allies and its gloves off time.
I think people are overestimating Russia ability's , frankly they've been shocking on the war front with Ukraine especially considering the amount of manpower - size - military stock etc at the start of the war . Ukraine didn't even have anti tank rocket launches at the beginning no navy with barely an air force to muster. Russia wouldn't stand a chance against UK- France and Germany .
I agree Russia hasn't exactly been the formidable force we all thought so far. To me, what this highlights is something I kind of suspected for a while. That is that all the stats about numbers of personnel, numbers of pieces of equipment etc, is only half the story. We've seen that before in all the wars the US like to start. The USA has all the big numbers, but they always insist on little Britain coming along to do all the precision and specialist stuff. On your trio of Britain, France and Germany, I'm not so sure. France I suspect is quite formidable. Germany I think could be, but they lost all their will to fight after world war two. And as for Britain, while I have the greatest respect for the service men and women and have no doubt they're among the best in the world, from what I can tell their hands are a bit tied because the government won't buy them the kit they need.
It is when one side finds its back against the wall that the threat of nukes becomes more likely IMO.
All the more reason why there should be talking going on. As I see it, there are two ways to end the war. Option 1, get everybody talking. Find some diplomatic way to stabilise the situation. Option 2, have a massive fight, sacrifice a lot of lives leaving lasting hatred in the hearts of the survivors, and hope that one side yields while there's still anyone left.
First sensible thing that Dave has said: UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron told the House of Lords this week that instead of decommissioning weapons systems at great expense once they technically pass their expiry dates, allies should give them to Ukraine.
Internationally, Dave is apparently held in quite high regard. No idea myself. I thought that this was what was happening anyway
I don't think that Viktor Orban has a full grasp of the current situation: "If the Americans don't give money and weapons, along with the Europeans, then the war is over. And if the Americans don't give money, the Europeans alone are unable to finance this war. And then the war is over." A couple of points for Viktor to consider: - the Russian economy is a tiddler compared to the UK/EU; - if Russia gets to a NATO county - it's game over. Europe has to be able to stand on its own two feet and give Putin a battering. I must say, Emmanuel has surprised me, as has Olaf - although I would like to see Taurus missiles in Ukraine.
I for one am not keen on financing a war and I can see very well that your average American can probably feel the same way, only more so. We don't want it or need it, we are on our knees now after covid and with a dysfunctional work force that we seem to have now. Perhaps we can have a war based on working from home.
All the talk of NATO being able to batter Russia really frustrates me. Nobody should be talking of battering anyone. Let's say, hypothetically, Putin and his cronies right now realise they've made a massive mistake. Let's say they want to stop the invasion. What options do they have today? Everyone is hellbent on justice and revenge, making an example of Russia to all bullies of the world. What does that mean? It means Russia has no way out except to fight to the bitter end. They literally have no option, as long as everyone is talking about battering them. No possibility of diplomacy. Zelensky has made it abundantly clear that diplomacy is not even being considered. He's organised peace negotiations, except he hasn't invited the the side he's fighting. The Germans are nervous about sending long range missiles. I wonder why. I wonder if they're watching the news of attacks deep inside Russian territory, including Moscow and St Petersburg, and wondering how long it will be til the Ukrainians fire NATO weapons into Russia. Everyone's trying to calculate the outcome of a war between Russia and NATO. I agree with the majority that NATO as it is today, Vs Russia, would be quite one sided. Except the yanks are thinking of electing a maniac that has openly threatened to pull out of NATO. And in any case, it wouldn't be Russia Vs NATO. It would be NATO Vs Russia, Belarus, China, Iran, Syria, North Korea, and probably several others that would just love to have a pop at the west if they thought they'd have a chance of getting away with it.
I think that's their aim. It's the BRICS countries; they don't just want a war they almost require it before domestically, democracy actually gets a strong toe hold and ruins the authoritarian regimes.
