What's happening to my Chilies?

I sowed some Anahiem chilies on the 4th February, in a seed compost, in my propagator. They had germinated well by the 17th. I turned the propagator off but left the seed pots in it. However, not long after, the initial leaves started to yellow and die. A small and tender shoot appeared above the dead leaves. The seedlings have survived being potted-on.

Is all well with my chilies? Is this a "seed leaf" that has died? I haven't noticed this growth pattern in previous years. I've uploaded a picture to illustrate my plants before they were potted-on.

 

@ChilliPepper Yes it looks as if the seed leaves have died, possibly got a bit scorched in the propagator; if it was on a windowsill.

Thanks Nigel. That puts my mind at rest. I'll persevere with my seedlings! The only space I have for my propagator is in the greenhouse itself so with the occasional sunny few hours we have had lately, the temperature in there may have risen quickly without me noticing it. Would the seed leaves have survived otherwise?

 

Is your greenhouse heated?
If not it could be they got chilled if you were not turning the propagator back on at night.

You need a minimum of 16c for chilli's.

 

May be, mine have at c18°C min possibly lower; as they live in garage with LED lighting for 14 hours a day and a heated base.

I have a 2Kw fan heater and line the greenhouse internally with bubble-wrap from October to about the end of the second week in April (I'm in eastern Devon so it's mild). I've no artificial lighting.

It could well be that they got cold. My greenhouse is kept at a minimum of 11°C overnight but always warmer during the day.

Maybe my chilies need to be cossetted more like yours are!
