Citrus paradisi, Ruby Red Grapefruit

I bought my tree in 2005, put it in a pot and had flowers in 2007 but no fruit. We put it in the ground but it has not done much ... until now and we discovered flower buds.

 

I hope your tree produces some nice fruit for you

@Victoria When my lemon (now gone) had several male and female flowers, I cross pollenated them myself and it did produce some fruits.

 

We have a flower open ...

The leaves don't look great but we did feed with Eosom Salts when we did the Hibiscus and Brugs.

I am trying to be positive ... but when we tried a Lime some years ago, we had dozens of tiny pips and all committed suicide!

 

My go to feed for citrus is iron, it takes a while but it does green up the leaves.
They dont look that bad, just some yellow patches.

The size of grapefruit might mean you will have to thin them out.
I thin my lemons and still get lots on a four ft plant.

 

Where do you get iron from? Can I crush up iron pills in water?

 

I dont know about crushing tablets.
I buy sachets of either chelated iron or sequestered iron.
You might be able to get it online, it would be good for the Hibiscus as well if you start to get any yellowing.

 

Failing that, @Victoria, try to get hold of some Miracle-Gro. Ordinary or for ericaceous plants, either is fine. Citrus absolutely love feed and water through the spring, summer and autumn, and I get tons of fruit from my citrus trees-in-half barrels as long as they get a fortnightly dose of MG. I've never found a product here anything like as good, and the so-called citrus feeds are rubbish, especially now most of them are 'bio'.
As yours is in the ground, even a scattering of the ubiquitous blue granules, perhaps with some sulphate of iron, would be better than nothing as long as it's watered in occasionally.

Ooh, lovely! I love grapefruit, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't grow them here (nowhere to overwinter under cover and too cold to leave them out).
