If you cat gets caught wandering, there is a hefty fine so most people just put them on a leash or make sure they can't get out of their garden to avoid the cost. This silliness all started because some gardener (obviously not one of us!) complained about cats digging and you know how these silly "woke" councils are!

@CanadianLori . I put it on that thread but I thought it must be out of date as nobody had posted for several months

Hmm, that's weird as I just saw a new one the other day - did you go to the last page? page 1 is the oldest and so on.

I'll never understand what North Americans have against scales. Please don't use volumetric measures for baking, weight is the only way. Indeed weighing all three main ingredients for a sponge cake is the most accurate way to get a light cake.

It always pleases me that the US institution that is King Arthur Flour always use metric as the main measurement units in their great recipes as they're much more accurate than imperial and not guesswork as cups.

If ever need a really impressive celebration cake, look up their recipe for the three tier carrot cake...it's amazing.

All my mugs are different sizes.
You ever try getting butter or margarine to evenly fill a cup?

Interesting, I am an American, been baking cakes, cooking etc since I was 13 years old. So that is going on 50+ years. Never owned a scale, or used one. Seems everything I bake comes out picture perfect. Nothing against a scale, just don't feel "preciseness" is totally needed, so far with all my cooking I get rave reviews from guests, and great results. So I keep doing what I've been doing.

We have stick butter here with measurements on the wrapper. But, if you do not have a measurement on the wrapper for your butter, then you can use the displacement method. Take very cold butter, and very very cold water. Put very very cold water in a vessel with measurments on the side, glass is best. For over here, I have a 2 Cup clear glass measurement jug, fill it up to the ONE cup line, then clump the butter in the water, when the water rises to the 2 cup line, then you have one cup butter, quickly use your fingers to drain out the water, pop the butter in the bowl, done.
I rarely measure any mucky things like peanut butter, or mayo. I just scope it out and judge the amount, and move on.

And margarine, is never found in my house, its only 2 molecules from plastic.

Yep, my big mug of coffee in the morning. Shame have some of those cute tea cups and saucers in the cupboard, top shelf, collecting dust.
We will be leaving soon for our airbnb in North Carolina, where I get to have coffee on our dock . coffee New bern.jpg

Friday. raining here. Lots of outside garden stuff done yesterday. So good day to stay in and do house stuff. We did lock down our trip to our Airbnb, end of this month, we will be gone 14 days there. So much packing to do etc. prior. Not just clothes, but food things etc. Even though there is a nice grocery store near enough. It will be nice to have sometime to explore the area more than in the past. And sadly, don't have to worry about pets at home this trip.
Thanks all for the condolences of my crocuses. SMH, some bounced back up. My brother-in-law is "special".
Take care all. Have a good one.
