      I joined Facebook many years ago. I haven't used it for yonks. Anyway, when I joined, I put my date of birth as the first of January for whatever year it was. I kept getting adverts for nappies. Maybe algorithms have a sense of humour:heehee:

                  Why @Star gaze Lily would you want to stop them? I'm pretty certain the adverts are paying for the forum's keep, it costs us nothing. TBF it's hardly anything compared to the huge adverts on GW. Or am I misunderstanding you?

                      Yes the advertising goes to keeping the forum going; hosting server space and whatnot. Possibly worth noting no-one here gets paid, everyone helping, contributing, moderating etc is all on a voluntary basis.
                      The advertising algorithms use a mix of witchcraft and chicanery to target adverts related to your online 'life', so if you start searching holidays for example then mysteriously you'll see adverts for holidays appear ... I think you can make it random but you'd have to do an internet search as to how as it's not governed by us.

                        Sadly not, they are served up by Google Ad services (as far as I know); their ad servers know roughly where you are logging in from and will show ads that it guesses might be relevant.
