I've cut mine four times now too. We must have very similar soil @JennyJB, as my house is on sandstone bedrock with grass responding in the same way! I've been trying to improve my sandy soil with regular mulches of bought composts and I'm thinking this needs to be done again soon. I got some very good advice from @fairygirl a couple of years ago elsewhere :hapydancsmil:! Do you have a routine of soil improvement?

We've been unable to cut ours for ages - too wet. We bought a strimmer just to keep the level down. One day we'll be able to use the mower:sad:

Chuck as much compost on it as I can manage, mostly from my own bins, sometimes spent compost from container planting. I have occasionally bought bagged mulch but it's quite pricey and doesn't go very far.

Doesn't count as a lawn but did the first cut of the paths in the orchard. Grass really lush so cut high. Our "lawn" is really a wildflower one and we haven't cut it yet.

My lawn is growing fast, but the ground is too wet to get a mower onto. I have paving slabs as stepping stones the entire length of the lawn and can hardly see them. I won't need a mower, I'll need an industrial size harvester when/if the ground is ever dry enough.

I'm hoping the, strimmer will keep mine manageable. Flat weeds and grass not really a lawn so it's doing the job.

There are a few benefits of having vast amounts of moss in my grass as what grass there is does not grow that fast. I cannot in all honesty call my grass a lawn:). Still incredibly wet so looking out the longest bamboo cane I have for when I get the lawn tractor out which will need to be shortly. The damned shoot is bound to block with cuttings as what is growing is extremely lush. The first cut of the year is never an enjoyable job with the amount of grass I have to cut which is quite a lot!

My OH gave our lawn it's first cut of the year a few days ago. I feed it with Fish Blood and Bone in the spring, midsummer and then in the Autumn. It seems to do the trick. It is always lovely and green. There are few daisies in it but I don't care, it's not going to the Chelsea Flower Show. It does get a good rake now and again too. :spinning:

        £85 a bin collecting once a fortnight/ifyou'relucky!
I've been looking to cut the grass since Christmas. I could get the petrol mower out and service that then cut the grass, but I'm procrastinating, because then I'll have no reason not to aerate, scarify, feed and top dress.....I'll use the cordless mower soon....maybe

Ha! I could have written this! I don't mow any more as it is too much for my back. I have a strimmer and I wave this around when things get desperate, but mostly I just ignore it.
