@Badly_Maintained , I don't bother too much with 'correct' ratio of grit to compost. If it falls fairly freely through my hands, it will do. Not had a failure yet. My pots do get some shelter from the worst of the rain until the green shoots appear.

Good morning all. The sky is blue with light cloud and forecast to remain so. Gardening and a trip to Ashwood Nurseries are my plans for today!

Morning all. Lovely day here and for a change the met office, BBC and Netweather all seem to agree with each other. Just having a cuppa while I wait for the washer to finish. Maybe a spot more cutting back and rearranging in the garden later.

Slowly making my way oop north @Songbird! When I had a quick glimpse of this post I had to do a double take as I read cloche as clothes and I did think you were really brave going naked gardening! :heehee::heehee:

            Hello everyone
I have been very busy at the weekend and couldn't come to chat. I am still not sure how to find this thread because I don't seem to find it by searching in the list of forums (fora, sorry), even if I have opted to "watch" it. The only way I could get in now was because of the alerts.

Hope you are all well lovely people and that you will have a productive gardening day, I know I won't. (Dishwasher has finally packed up so we have to search for a new one).

I have also seen some posts with "solved" written on, when the original poster is, I presume, happy with the answers. I think it is a brilliant idea but would like to know how it is done. Must make time to practice.

            Take care all

Thank you @Songbird and @Badly_Maintained very kind of you.
I'm hoping no one phones either @Songbird there's hardly any voice there and I don't want it to disappear completely
I'll keep dosing myself up and hope I'm back to normal soon.......well as normal as is possible ;)

Morning to everyone, well we’re having our second dry day in a row and I was hoping to cut the grass today for the first time this year but we had early morning mizzle which has left the grass wet again. Will it ever be dry enough to cut?
Birds, bees and ladybirds are busy in the garden and our tadpoles are growing and trying to avoid the Great Diving Beetle which I saw yesterday, I hope some manage to survive. My husband thinks I should fish it out and dispose of it as I’ve waited 2 years for tadpoles, but I know the right thing to do is to leave nature to its own devices!
I thought I’d make Mary Berry’s Chocolate Malted Cake today but it says that it will stay fresh in an airtight container for 1 day, that doesn’t seem long. It’s a big cake and we’d never eat it all in one day. It doesn’t have fresh cream in it so I’m wondering why … do you have any idea @Dovefromabove I know you’re an expert baker

Do you think it could be a miss print @CatDouch one day is no time at all. But if you need any help eating it, I'm sure I could eat a slice or two ;)

That’s what I was wondering @Star gaze Lily the only difference to a normal chocolate cake recipe is the addition of malted chocolate drink powder? You’d be more than welcome to have a slice

@CatDouch I thought I had that recipe in my Mary Berry cake book, but can't find it in there. I do have one very similar in M&S recipe book and that keeps well for a few days.

Thank you, will go down very nicely later with a cup of tea:coffee1:

I know where Morristown, NJ is, got my two GSD from there many years back. We have lived in Parkesburg since 1989, so yep, 10 years ago you would have driven past me. Intercourse, PA is about 20 min drive west of me.

Good morning all, happy new week, Monday.
I am retired so no stressful Monday's for me anymore. A little chilly right now. Have some inside stuff to do as we all do.
Just ran over some roasted chicken bits and roasted pork fat bits to my neighbor who feeds lots of outdoor cats. My last outdoor cat passed on Dec. 8. she was 19. Have had quiet a number over the years, they all loved the bits from roasts.
Have lots of daffs blooming now, and some hellebores blooming. My star magnolia just starting.
Anyway, on to whatever. Have a grand day all.

Afternoon, all. Dry and sunny spells down here today, although some low cloud on the higher ground to start. Had a walk on the seafront this morning to see the sun, so many surrounding trees here at home that it’s very shady at times. Will be worse when the leaves are on the trees, but at least the sun will be higher.
Home for the usual fortnightly panic before green bin day on Wednesday! OH collected up all the twigs and branches from the grass, and I gathered the brambles and prunings from the last couple of days. Managed to almost fill one of the two bins.
Now recovering from a late lunch, I’m not sure I’ll have the energy for a second foray.
It looks as if most of us refugees are settling in Ok?
Glad to see you haven’t taken fright at the influx of newcomers, @redstar! It must have been alarming, but I, and I’m sure others, thought it better to join an existing chat thread rather than look as if we were importing one from our last home. Just seems to be rather a crowd of us!

Good evening folks. Just home from my study day so cuppa made and straight on here to catch up…

For those of you who have ever endured the ‘ice-breakers’ at work, study or club events, you’ll know the feeling when the phrase “getting to know you all” is uttered. Today we had to draw (yes) our ideal holiday. I went for a log-cabin-in-the-woods vibe, which was supposed to represent quiet, nature and escape. It was interesting (alarming?) how many were describing a holiday where everyone just leaves them alone - be it on a beach, mountain or boat.

I hope everyone is doing ok and Monday has been kind - be that with weather, social, health or otherwise.
