What's looking good MARCH 2024

would love to do that. I can do that on another garden forum. What site do you go to? But more often it tells me my pics are too large, again, no issues on another forum. So I give up.

 

Not sure if it quite comes under the theme of "looking good" but amazed to see an unopened rudbeckia flower, and a (scabious?) flowering in my garden today! Considering they usually flower in July/August!

 

There are quite a few pulmonaria here, but this is one we bought and it’s looking really good

I don’t know how to deal with the problem of photo size, hopefully a more tech savvy member or admin will be able to help.
I just clicked ‘upload a file’ then chose my photo, and clicked ‘full image’

 

@NigelJ Definitely not what I wanted to hear! I am considering putting them under my greengage/plum trees so that might help.

 

@Golarne @redstar From the iPad/iphone you should be able to diminish the size of the photo after selecting it. Go to options at the bottom of the page and then select large, instead of full size.

 

I use a photo editor to make pix smaller - I reduce them all to around 1MB or less. I use Chrome on this laptop, and it's all slightly different from my old one where most of my photos are. I then just drag the photos across to this forum to put in a post. That's how I've done it on any forum, and it just takes a wee bit of practice.

The little row of dots - far right is for reducing size. Far left is for cropping, and there's one for sharpening the pic etc.

 

I just have my camera set to J pegs and dont have to resize at all.
most of my pictures are under 5 Mb.

 

I don't have that option on my camera @pete - it would be handy! I do it by pixels as it's easier than any other option on the editor.

Camera's gradually failing, so I'll need a new one. Another outlay to add to the ones I already have

 

@fairygirl, I think your scabious is a Knautia macedonica. I've had knautia flowers (some red, some pastels) sporadically for most of the winter. There was a pale pink one yesterday on a self-sown plant that I pulled out, and I think there was one in my new year's day flower count.

 

Never understood pixels TBH.
I've tried resizing programmes but they confuse me when they start stating pixels and sizes in mm?
I just go by Mb.

I know what you mean @pete - I just found it easier with the editor thing I have, and it generally reduces the pix to around half a MB or thereabouts, and you can play about with the pixel numbers. It seems to work well. I have to reduce them a lot for the walking site I use, so it just saves time if I do them all that way. Most of mine are from about 4 - 9 MB.

 

I had a few problems years ago with size and was advised to resize to 800 x 600 pixels, I've done that ever since and it works. Things may have changed since then as I know there was at least one upgrade to the forum software.
I find 800 x 600 gives a perfectly acceptable size quality compromise here and when emailing, in Whatsap and when posting on another forum with a different system.

 

The walking site I use has to have them around 600KB or less, so that's roughly waht I aim for with them all @NigelJ . I think that pic I posted earlier is around 500KB.
I don't really understand it all either, but it works so that's all that matters!
