I'm sorry you thought I was taking the pee, I was just being light hearted. I am really hopeless at spelling and don't think it's important and that's why I said what I did.
I've had the pee taken out of me countless times about lots of things.
      Lighten up !!

I honestly didn't think you were taking the pee Michael, and don't think @Jiffy did either - the reference (I understood) was how others have treated him away from GC over the years.

Everything is all OK, I assure you :)

OK Thanks for explaining. I got the wrong end of the stick again - see I can't understand what I read as well as not being able to spell.

              No apology necessary :)

If I had £5 for every time I got the wrong end of the stick with something, I would be a rich man.

I agree Shiney. The following quote is always much higher. It pays to shop around each year.

Recently I had my chimney swept and had the log burner condemned. I had a chap out, recommended by the sweep, who gave me a detailed estimate, breaking it down into sections, ie possible repair of burner, full replacement etc. I also contacted another fitter who put in my neighbours log burner. He said he didn't have time to come personally, until next week. He tried very hard to find out from me who I had already seen, and he wanted to know what the estimate was. When I told him which fire had been recommended, the only info. I gave him, he immediately undercut the price slightly.
It really bugs me that someone would try to give an quote for a job without seeing what needed to be done and who persistently tried to find out how much the estimate was. I really feel as if I am a "grumpy old moo" about things like this but I really dig in my heels and refuse to play their game.
Or am I being unreasonable in this modern day and age?
Just because we are neighbours does not mean our fires and chimneys are exactly the same or that the existing fires were put in by the same people. I know my fire place and chimney are different to next doors, and they were put in by different people.

There is absolutely no reason to tell them who else has quoted or how much they have quoted. If they asked me those questions I would probably not progress any further with them.

A few weeks ago the main Road into town was closed due to a massive hole appearing near a Bus Stop. So the contractors have reinstated the road & painted the Bust Stop sign, but only 3/4 of the Stop sign has been painted.
Why? Not being paid to finish painting the sign. Madness.

They do this all the time around here - they are only paid for the exact bit of road that they are working on and nothing more. It is nuts, because you end up with a couple of yellow blobs nice and bright, and the rest of the markings are completely faded.

I could have done with one of those 'Bust Stops' when I was in my twenties @Victoria :heehee:

We had some of those 20mph circular doo dahs on the road painted a few years ago, and I thought 'good, about time' as there are idiots with heavy right feet who can't seem to grasp the idea of driving sensibly to go 50 yards to a junction. However, a couple of weeks later, they returned and removed them because they should have been at the other end of the road. Utter madness - why not just leave them there!

There is definitely a difference to how a man and how a woman is treated by some workmen. I get treated quite differently from how my husband used to be treated. Unfortunately because my husband is quite poorly I've picked up the reins for the running of our home. Do you think the workman you've described would have treated you different if you were a man? Sorry if this sounds sexist, it's not meant to be, it's just my observation. It does drive me nuts.
