:love30:Oh my word @Fat Controller … it seems you too are a stubborn so and so!!!
My son demanded to be released to my care less than a week out of ICU. He couldn’t walk or do anything for himself … I slept on the sofa by his bed in our sitting room, did everything for him, changing dressings on the grafts etc which they showed me how to do, and I had to take him from Norwich to Broomfield Chelmsford weekly for treatment (and I’m no spring chicken and my OH doesn’t drive) and I been driving there every other day for 6 weeks! It’s been quite a journey in more ways than one!

Crikey, @Fat Controller you have really been through it and so bravely too. You don't come across as being grumpy at all, you sound really friendly and helpful.

Most folks around here know what went on, and I really cannot over emphasise the support that I got from everyone here. Really exceptional people.

That is the thing - you have to literally fight to be let out. I ended up having a discussion with one of the directors of the hospital and told him I would sue them for false imprisonment if they kept me any longer; they wouldn't let me out, despite there being a bed, commode and hoist all sitting at home with Mrs C ready to care for me. They wanted a six person team of carers coming in, or they wanted me to go to a neuro-rehab unit in Woking. I was home the day after I had the chat with that director.

Oh, I can be grumpy, I am sure Mrs C would testify to that

We had nothing ready for my son
…,we arrived home at about 8pm .. all he had were dressings, meds and a walking frame … and then had to move a big double bed downstairs and find him something to pee in … thankfully within the week we had a wheelchair on loan from the Red Cross … but the first night when he tried to get out of bed and fell was so scary … he’s 6’ and 17stone … and my OH isn’t. Somehow we got him back
              Into bed.

As well as nearly losing his life he lost all his possessions including valuable instruments and his much loved Alfa Romeo in the explosion. Only the car was insured … the effects of COVID on the music industry had meant he could no longer afford to insure his guitars. His friends set up a Go Fund Me … dear @Didyw put it on GW … the support was beyond words ….

Anyway that’s enough of that for now … thanks for everyone’s kind wishes … I have to get ready to go to the seaside ….

That word 'seaside' conjures up some lovely feelings and memories. Great to hear all is working out with your son. Enjoy the seaside.

Thank you for liking my sayings. @Coccinella I love the Italian one and speak un po d'Italiano!
The swallows aren't here yet, but they can't be far away as the weather is very mild. The brave little darlings. Have you seen that lovely film with Michel Serrault "One Swallow Doesn't Make a Summer"?

Goodness @Fat Controller that's some trauma you have been through. This explains why the members of GW went into shock when the site was to be closed down. A lot of people have sympathised and supported each other in difficult times. Bravo Mr Fat Controller - and a double Bravo! to the both of you as the carer has a very difficult job.

Morning all. Thursday, 8:45AM. Still working on coffee. 26 degrees
So many conversations. Top one--is the stress/trauma that parents go through when their child experiences a tragic event leading to ICU hospital stays. Working in ICU myself I do visually know of all the tubes ect. on the patient. The parent counseling I had to do etc. The unknown outcome of their child. Very heart breaking.

Yesterday, just cleaning about my house. Went to the Dentist for my yearly check up--no issues. Husband decided to food shop for lots of roasts, and snacks he wants, so the freezer is full now.
So now I just get to cook it all . LOL.

Not sure what I am going to get into for the rest of the day. Looking forward to a nice evening out at the Awards banquet, its at a Winery in the next town over. Take care all.

Wow Fat Controller you really have been through the wringer, well done on perseverance. My hubby is on blood thinners for life after his second series of blood clots. Last time in early 2020 he woke up with huge blue, freezing cold legs. It was so bad the paramedics refused to let him sit up so he was hoisted off our terrace like they do with mountain climbers, funny now but not then as they told me I could go to see him “IF he survives the journey”…… yes he survived but was forced to come home early as the hospital he was in was the one where the first French Covid patients were being sent. It was safer for him to come home as they did not know how bad it would get.
