Words that get on your nerves

People also say tempory instead of temporary, and Island instead of Ireland, even TV news readers, who should know better.

 

Many don't pronounce February correctly either!

 

@Plantminded you made me stop and think about that and I believe I’m guilty. I Believe I say Feb u ary!!! My old English teacher would be putting her ruler across my knuckles!!

 

High pitch girl on other end of phone, tells me she is a young one and will take more of my time to get her to understand things.

 

It's really difficult to get your tongue around it. Sometimes it's just easier to say feb-you-ree even if you know the correct pronunciation

 

I think the same can be said of Wednesday

That pronunciation for nuclear gets me too as does Artick for ArCtic.

 

Since when did we start pronouncing hospital as hospit-ool? Ceremony as serreh- moany?

 

Everyone knows it's orse spittle

 

I can't stand the over emphasised 'tt' pronunciation in 'LiTTle' . Coming from the lips of adults it sounds remarkeably childish to my ears.
