Tulipa sprengeri

    I think these are Tulips sprengeri seedlings. My memory suggests that I dumped a pot full into one hole because I thought they'd do better like that than in pots but I didn't want to disturb the roots. They're 2 0r 3 years old, 4 or 5 inches tall, I think it's time to separate them. Is now a good time? TIA

    I think I would wait until summer when they are dormant before disturbing them.

    My concern was that 1. I wouldn't be able to find them and 2. There's something different about sprengeri from other Tulips and I can't remember what it is. You never see them for sale dry and I wondered if they needed to be 'in the green' like Snowdrops

      They are expensive to buy as dry bulbs, so perhaps that is why you don’t see them. I have never done it, but those look fairly robust, so I think it would be ok, and I think now would be a good time, as you can see what you are doing.
