    Hi Everyone

    Officially spring lol

Has any one used honey on the base of cuttings as a rooting aid instead of hormone rooting powder

Does it work or not ?

      Isn't honey a natural antiseptic?

It could perhaps help regarding stopping the end of the cuttings rotting before rooting.

I’ve heard of folk being successful with it … but I’ve not tried it and I know of no properly done comparative studies … I find most cuttings root pretty well without any ‘stuff’, but then I don’t take cuttings of anything that has a reputation for being too tricky.

I don't use anything to help cuttings root and usually I am successful.

My cuttings usually root without anything extra. It might be helpful to stave off rotting on things that are slow to get going.

Yes cinnamon and honey will keep bacteria out, they're both excellent for that, so you may as well use them if you're not sure about the cutting.
You make hot honey water and dip the stems when it's cooled.

I think there's some rooting powder lurking in the shed but it's pretty old so it might not be a fair trial. I might give it a go anyway next time I'm doing cuttings although if the strike rate is as good as using nothing (or better), I'll get far more plants than I need.
