    :loll:
I’m not rigid about it … I mean, if you offered me one I’d not be rude enough to refuse:yes:

it’s just that I wouldn’t think of buying or making them except for Good Friday.

Good morning all. If there were Hot Cross Buns police here I’d be in jail by now!!
Dry at the moment but it’s the weekly trip to the supermarket. Rain due by 4pm so may be able to snatch an hour or two in the garden after shopping. Enjoy your day

        Good morning all!!

A wild and woolly day here with strong winds and much needed rain. I don't think I will be going anywhere on my bike today - too windy!!

That's nice @Busy-Lizzie to be able to join the party of walkers for lunch - they probably will be doing the same if it is raining!

We are having a stormy end of March - who said it goes out like a lamb? Ah yes @Dovefromabove!! I have a question for you - or anyone who can help. I would like to make some hot cross buns with the discard from the sourdough levain. Is that possible? Can't get hot cross buns here. Maybe @Dordogne Damsel can help with a recipe. I am glad you are feeling better as difficulty breathing can be quite frightening.

Good Friday here @Dovefromabove is not a holiday strangely enough being such a christian country. I believe it is the same in Ireland.

Enjoy your day whatever the weather. May it be peaceful and happy.

          Hi all

Well it’s not raining, so that’s an improvement, although hardly inspiring. We have a man coming to start painting the outside of the house, it very badly needs doing.
I might start potting up the Dahlias.

I buy hot cross buns all through the year when we are in England, extra fruity ones. My favourite breakfast. When we go by car I bring some back and freeze them.

Morning everybody. I've been up for a while, after waking up with a coughing fit, think it was only nose congestion which I often get so nothing serious. I did a lot of hedge trimming yesterday, getting up close and personal so I could reach inside with the loppers so presume I probably inhaled a lot of dust off the evergreen leaves.

@Chicky, could it have been a bout of vertigo? Sometimes affects me when I wake up in the mornings. Hope you feel better now and you too @Dordogne Damsel, sounds a really nasty bug.

I must get some Hot Cross Buns as well and like @Dovefromabove, only eat them on Good Friday (and possibly any left overs on the Saturday). I might enquire at our local bakery if I could order some in advance as I think they might taste better than the usual S/M ones I usually get. Not sure if they will open on G/F although they now do on Sundays which is unusual.

Must get dressed soon and do a quick shop for our lunchtime visitors, one of OH's brothers and his wife. We don't get to see them very often so looking forward to their visit. I did all the housework yesterday so that's ok.

                Have a good day all.

Good morning all and good afternoon @PatE :I hope you will soon be able to post pics of Aussie clouds. We liked them.

It is cloudy here, we are not going to have a sunny Easter I don't think. Yesterday it was nice, did a lot of weeding in those bits that I had not covered with cardboard. It looks ugly but it did its job, now I have covered it with chipping mulch and looks a bit better, hopefully it will retain the nice moisture for a while. Back garden faces southwest and it baked last year.

I have started Easter baking this morning: tomorrow will make Hot cross buns. I wouldn't if I had a Waitrose nearby

@Tui34 I don't see why not, but perhaps wait for an answer from the pros.

                  Have a good day all

@tui … it is possible because that’s the way all yeasted doughs were made before the development of commercially produced yeast in the second half of the 19 century.

However, although I do make sourdough bread from time to time, given the very long proving needed for enriched dough when using sourdough (up to 36 hours!) I’ve never bothered to use it for hot cross buns.

interesting question … I’ll ask my baking friends on the cooking forum I’m a member of.

Morning all, I love Hot Cross Buns but unless I learn to make them I will have to do without!
I'm off to see the Audiologist shortly and the weather is cold, wet and windy, luckily it's not too far from the car park.

Yes please @Dovefromabove I found a recipe on The Clever Carrot (American) but using starter - I feel quite bad about the discard so would like to use that - I just wondered in what proportion. I use 100g levain to 500g T65. Thank you for answering.

@Tui34 and @floralies I use Paul Hollywood's recipe on BBC Food and the Mary Berry one is OK too.

If you use T65 wholemeal they'll be a bit heavy so I suggest half and half white and brown flour.

                              Good morning to all.
I'm not a fan of HCB's... perhaps I'm the only one.
It's a dry day here with a little sunshine occasionally which is most welcome after yesterday's appalling weather. I'm hoping to go for a longish walk soon.
Have a lovely day, whatever your plans.

@pattie they're the only thing containing dried fruits that my daughter will eat, not even mince pies or Xmas cake tho I do sympathise about Xmas pud. We all love them toasted and dripping with butter. Good job it's only one a year - well maybe the entire long weekend.
