So now ready to think about design, I’ve kept a lovely apple and pear tree and had to severely cut back a very established climber (hoping it will recover‍♀️) and a winter flowering honeysuckle. It gets very very hot at the back end of the garden as the sun is on it all day long. Please see pictures attached and my new plan!

I’ve figured out where the hard landscaping should be but my main question is about the circular bed I would like in the middle of the garden! I can find hardly any info on designing a large bed, ideally with a large shrub or small tree to help with shade at the sunny end of the garden. I like shrubs that look after themselves but am at a loss as to where to even start! Help!

The circular bed looks quite a tight fit on your plan. Just a thought, but in time will you be happy having to walk round it each time you want to get to the end of the garden?

This may give you some ideas...

Hi @Wannabe - beds you can see on all sides were first promoted about 50 years ago as 'island beds' by (I think) Alan Bloom of Bressingham. If you can find any articles about them, they will give more advice on layout.
You have got a lot of features you want to incorporate in your garden - make sure you allow enough access space around them - for example paths always need to be wider than you think.

Created two small flower beds and decided the hot tub should live between the garage and the summer house, hubby has used oak sleepers as a surrounding base for the summer house, hot tub and flower beds. I love how chunky they look! We have decided to go for a quite low maintenance garden and will pave this area

Have you changed your mind about the circular bed @Wannabe and is that your house to the left of the new summerhouse ?
I was just wondering, because you had a wisteria against that wall in your drawing, but the wall looks like it's timber cladded.
Always exciting when designing a new plot. I think you're right about making a hard surface for all the bits inbetween your various sections - makes it nicely uniform and ties it all together

The garden doesn’t actually connect to the house! They are 1860 workers cottages and the house (which is on the right) is my neighbours property. The black cladded building on the left is the side of our garage. It was always clad but hubby repainted it at the same time as the summer house. He always imagined a wisteria growing up here but we are still undecided! So to get to my “side” Garden I come out of the house walk down the road and into the garden. When hubby started using the sleepers everything kind of became square so the circular bed has had a rethink! I still love the idea of the main bed in a central position but it is getting smaller and oh grass area is getting bigger. It is a struggle! I’ll post more pics later!

Ah - thanks for clarifying that @Wannabe . It can be quite difficult to get the gist of a space from photos.
I look forward to seeing more updates. I've made gardens from bare plots a few times, and often with very limited funds. It's always very satisfying though.
I just wondered about the wisteria because they become big heavy plants, so that's always something else you have to think about too!

I wonder if you have to upload a video from an outside site. That was the case on the other forum I was on, but perhaps the mods would help you with that? There might be a thread specifically for it though. I haven't looked, and I don't do many videos, but you had to use the YouTube channel for that forum. Mine was fine until something went wrong and it didn't seem to work any more.

I’m not very tech savvy so I probably won’t try

I had a look at my YouTube thing, and it seems to be working again, but I've not tried linking a video here @Wannabe . I'm sure the mods would help if you wanted to try it. I'm not sure of all the tech jargon so I'd need someone to explain it to me in words of one syllable!
