It looks a lot like Campanula persicifolia (peach leafed bellflower) which is a perennial garden plant. It does self seed though, so I suppose some might call it a weed.
I haven't heard of paper bellflower but it could be another common name for the same plant.

It might be better to let it flower then you'll know.

Agree looks like Campanula persicifolia, we have lots self seeding through the garden. Very pretty and you sometimes find little groups of bees huddled together inside the flower when it’s cool or rainy weather

Thank you for everyone’s help, I remember having a weed similar looking to this in my lawn so I think that’s where I was getting mixed up, I did dig some of these up as there were clumps of it in a few places which I’ve now re-planted in other places, I do remember them having blue flowers on and the stems being about 2 foot tall. Cheers.

I wish mine would set seed, I think it's very pretty but I have just the one clump and a bit in a pot.

If it's a hybrid named variety it could possibly be sterile, or maybe the bees haven't found it. Or perhaps you're a tidier gardener than I am and dead-head it.

I don't think it's a hybrid and I often see bees going to it. I am certainly not a tidy gardener. I have left the flower stalks on it for weeks without cutting them off, in the hope it will set seeds.
Maybe the ground isn't suitable for it to germinate.
This year I think I'll collect the seeds and sow them myself.

I used to have a white one ...

I too wish some would self seed from anywhere (I have none) in my garden:redface:

My purple ones self-seed, but the white ones won't, for some reason.

I love the texture of the flowers. Like little satin ballgowns!

Yes, I do get both but the white are few and far between. A bit like Honesty, I love the white one but always get far more of the purple
