I hadn't realised how limited the hire chippers are, they appear pretty useless, as my Bosch one can tackle 2ins easy in softwood, and I've put lots of leafy stuff including conifers through it.
Its just a fairly slow process.

Did some weeding and raking, redid the netting over the white and purple sprouting broccoli, put my feet up in the converted shed/greenhouse which was a very pleasant 20c in the sun. Transplanted some coriander modules to pots. Put the toms, chilli's etc outside today as it was sunny to harden them a little, thankfully remembered to bring them in.

Your woodwork looks fine to me. Glad to see your spaghetti tree is still upright @Fat Controller.

Advertise the wood locally, somebody will be interested for wood burning stoves.

Spent the day painting bits of the summerhouse. Tomorrow will be a proper gardening day.

                Great word.
As for your conifers, sounds as though you're undecided?
Can I suggest, whilst you're deciding, remove all the dead foliage and any remaining branches up to where you have lopped them back. Bare their legs and turn them into bared multi stem specimens.
It may give you a fresh perspective to help decide what you want to do with them?

                ETA.
I did it with a Camellia a couple years back. Gave it a completely new lease of life for me.

I was thinking along those lines too @OwdPotter. Another thought was that if you remove the conifer @Fat Controller, is the view behind it OK or would it be less attractive than the conifer?

Forgot I was going to family for Easter dinner. Managed to get a bit of weeding done and paint up my raised allotment beds to smarten them up.

Only undecided in as much that I am unsure how best to tackle the job. I hate these things with a passion, so won't miss them at all. However, as a short term solution, at least to get us through this year whilst I sort the rest of the garden, one of the options is to tidy them to their bare legs for now and remove them later on.

They are at the back corner of the garden, so view won't be massively affected as there isn't a lot over that side. There is a lilac tree hidden behind them that would still offer some cover for the neighbour's shed behind.

Even here in 2015, they were starting to get a bit floppy on the lower limbs, albeit nowhere near as bad as they were yesterday

EDIT - here they are when they were a bit better behaved (probably around 2012..)

In that case @Fat Controller, with no trampoline or other nasty to be revealed, I'd definitely get rid of it! The first job I had done when I moved here was to have an unsightly 20 foot conifer removed which was blocking all the light from the back of the house. I found out later that the roots were also blocking the drains. Luckily the insurance company covered the £2,600.00 bill to replace the pipes. If I move again, I'll be having a drains survey!

And back when they were around 10ft - they've got to be 18ft at least now.

I would get shot of the conifers before they get any bigger, if you don't need them for privacy.
