They are already banging on about the next pandemic that they want to shut us all down for - bird flu this time. They get two words from me and the second one is 'off'

Aren't we all routinely vaccinated against whooping cough?

@Clueless 1 v2 I got whooping cough when I was a kid back in the seventies and it wasn't pleasant. My dad had refused to let me have the vaccine.

From what I understand, it is a big risk to babies, but the risk of complications diminishes as we get older, assuming there are no underlying issues that compromise our immune system.

I'm nearly certain that both my kids were vaccinated as babies, as part of their standard vaccination program. I'm nearly certain I was vaccinated too but not 100%. I remember when I was a kid my little sister got whooping cough. I remember my mam being worried sick but pretending not to be. I was very young at the time so wouldn't have got all the details, but I seem to remember something about my mam being frustrated about the timing of the vaccination, because I think my sister caught it before she was supposed to be vaccinated. That's a long, long time ago. I might have got that completely wrong.

Polio and diphtheria were the two big ones, the rest they said get them and after that you will be immune.

I did have Smallpox vaccine on three occasions, you needed it to travel to Italy in the 60s, but that never took on me, neither did TB.

As a child/teenager I had polio, diptheria, whooping cough, smallpox, tetanus and TB vaccines.
No measles, mumps, rubella vaccine, so I had all of those plus which was chicken pox was the most uncomfortable.

I had whooping cough as an adult many years ago and it was very unpleasant. Recently having been bitten badly by a dog I have had a tetanus jab and this includes polio and diphtheria even though I have had those before and thought that they were for "ever".

I'm sure I was vaccinated against whooping cough when I was little.
