Whooping Cough in Europe

I've had that too - felt nothing and had no after effects. I caught shingles several years ago. It wasn't too bad but they say when you're older it can be worse.
They want me to have a vaccination for pneumonia now, and I'm thinking about it.

 

The one that typically left a scar was the BCG vaccine (tuberculosis). We were given that one in primary school aged about 9 or so. Apparently they stopped routinely giving it to children in the UK in the mid-2000s.

 

With that one they did some sort of scratch test first to see if you already had antibodies. If you had a reaction, you didn't need the vaccination.
My BCG scar is still visible.

I'm pretty sure I dodged that one. I remember being in the queue at school. I didn't want it but knew if I just hide they'll eventually catch up with me. So I queued up, got right into the nurse's office, signed in, then immediately made my excuses.

I think that might have been the second jab though. I had an itchy donut shaped lump on my upper arm for a few years which I think was from the first jab. I didn't want a second one.

 

We only had one, but there was the test that @Escarpment mentioned which was (if I remember rightly) a ring of 6 or so pinpricks given on your inner forearm, given a week or two beforehand. If you had a reaction to it (red, swollen, itchy) you didn't get given the BCG. Mine disappeared without trace but my BCG scar is still there.

 

Strange but I remember it the other way round, remember having the test with lots of needles, but mine didn't react, which was why I was sent for a chest X Ray. I never actually had the TB injection.

The small pox one was a kind of scratchy affair as well if I remember correctly almost done like a tattoo, you were supposed to react to that as well, but I never did after three goes.

That one often left a strange star shaped scar at the top of your arm where it had reacted as the rest of my family had those.

 

My generation (1971) was one of the last to get TB jab in Finland as the disease had been practically eradicated from the glass bottle the country was at the time. The jab was Calmette if I remember and I thought it was a true princess name

Of course TB is now back with more people moving around, but the jab is considered to have so many potential side effects it's not routinely given.

When applying for resident's permission to study abroad, I had to include a certificate to prove I didn't carry TB. I explained this to my doctor who scratched her head- such certificates hadn't exist since 50s. Then she found a suitable looking form, scribbled something in and added every possible stamp she had in her drawers. It looked most impressive and was accepted for my application

 

The saddest thing about the population becoming vaccine phobic, is the massive rise in cases of Measles. It can be a very serious disease, I looked after 2 children who died of complications.

This has all come about because of lies about the safety of vaccinations, put about by morons.

 

We can't blame people for being stupid. Some of just are.

My beef is with social media companies who in my opinion have a moral duty to regulate what is promoted on their sites. Anything conspiracy related gets a lot of attention because it's divisive. That means it's great for ad revenue and data sales. Trouble is it also gives idiots a voice and an audience.

 

The normal amount of pain releaf doesn't have an afect so i have to have double the amount, the last time i went to the dentist i had to be carryed home, and i had an op and i can still remember going into the op room and the man who was going to do the op looked over me and said "we have a tough one here how many per med's did i have "answer" 2 so out came the gas and i was out for 2 day's

 

I stick by my choice of words. During COVID you only need to think about the spreading of rubbish about microchips, to confirm that there are far too many morons impacting on what some people believe about health care.

 

Some people in my neighbourhood tried to set fire to the new 5g phone mast, apparently because it was spreading COVID, or sending signals to Bill Gates' microchips or something.
