I could be remembering it wrongly and there was something particular that they were looking for. My pre-test definitely didn't cause a reaction and they gave me the BCG anyway :dunno:

The immune system is complicated so it's not surprising that some people sometimes have a bad reaction to a vaccine and also sometimes some people suffer lasting effects after catching a viral or bacterial infection. It's a matter of considering risk vs. benefit, and for most people, most of the time, I think the balance is in favour of having the vaccine.

My TB skin test reacted [little blisters formed] so I never had the BCG .My mum had to take me to the chest hospital for regular chest x rays for several years. I think it was determined I had been in contact with TB, possibly my grand father.

Well if you think about it Vaccines rely on triggering something that I'm sure is not 100% totally understood.

The smallpox vaccine left a scar, it's a bigger scar than BCG, the vaccine was stopped in 1971 as smallpox was seemingly eradicated. The smallpox scar is about a size between a 5p and a 1p coin. I guess you'll need to be over 60 to sport the smallpox scar.

I was quite ill after having the first two covid jabs, I had bad flu-like symptoms for days, could hardly stand up, and I couldn't breathe properly for a month or two. I became frightened so I've decided not to have any more.
To date I haven't caught it

I always get the flu jab and have no after effects, or occasionally a slightly achy arm for that evening only.
I had no ill-effects after the small pox vaccination in the 60s or the shingles vaccination last year.

So I don't know why I was so ill after the covid jabs, it makes me wonder what was in them that made me so ill.

Exactly the same as was in the ones that gave lots of people no side effects at all (other than sore arms which I think is a physical reaction to having something injected, not specifically to do with what was in the vaccine). The variable factor is the individual person and their immune system, medical history etc.

There's no doubt that there are some unpleasant and misguided people out there, a lot of them deliberately spreading nonsense, but a lot of what they spread is believed in true faith because of the lack of guidance by those in authority. It is not good enough to say that what they are spreading is silly (a lot of times it isn't even refuted by authorities) but there are even people in the medical profession that spread the wrong information, probably, not deliberately.

                  To quote:- from the NIH

"In 1974, doctors from Great Ormond Street Hospital published a paper claiming that there might be a link between the pertussis vaccine and brain damage. The resultant media attention and public debate saw a rapid reduction in the number of parents presenting their children for DTwP vaccination. Jeffrey Baker has described this crisis and its significance for public health as beginning around 1974 and ending in the mid-1980s, after the final court cases against the government brought by parents of children with brain injuries collapsed. He rightly argues that the crisis needs to be put into historical rather than simply epidemiological context. For public health professionals, the crisis – or the event which must be remembered and studied – is the drop in vaccination rates and subsequent rise in infections. It has become a lesson from history, and was referenced regularly during the later MMR crisis. Studies have therefore tended to focus on public attitudes towards the pertussis vaccine. While these were clearly important, we can learn more from extending our view of the crisis and putting it into the wider context of debates around the welfare state and the role of the government.

The risks of this brewing crisis can be separated into three broad issues. The first was the government’s duty to protect the public from pertussis. Since it was now possible to manage the risk of infectious diseases through vaccination, public health authorities were obliged to do so. The second issue was protection from damage. If, as the Great Ormond Street doctors implied, there was a risk of damage from vaccines, then the government was failing in its obligation to provide a safe vaccine against pertussis. But it was a third issue that drove the majority of press coverage and public debate around pertussis vaccine: the government’s responsibility to provide welfare support for those affected by failures in the first two policy areas."

This, on top of the Thalidomide tragedy, shows that the authorities/government needed to be more careful and vigilant about the dissemination of information.

Of course, that will still not stop deliberate misinformation being pushed out over social media and some of the press. The problem with social media is that a lot of people automatically believe what is posted. They are not necessarily morons but are misguided. Hence not liking the use of 'morons' to lump them together.

To quote from the Merriam Dictionary:- "The terms idiot, imbecile, moron, and their derivatives were formerly used as technical descriptors in medical, educational, and regulatory contexts. These uses were broadly rejected by the close of the 20th century and are now considered offensive."

Sorry for the long diatribe :noidea:

I've had three covid jabs and two flu jabs, didn't bother last year as my knee was not good and couldn't get to the surgery, but must admit I was thinking enough is enough.
Nothing to do with anything I read, just not keen on keep having unknow stuff pumped ito me.
Lets face it, it was so well thought out originally that they made you hang around for 15 minutes just in case you had a bad reaction, and why do they not use the AZ covid vaccine anymore.

I know that, but whatever was in it that had no effect on other people, made me ill so I'm not having any more.

My friend had dizzy spells for weeks after it (never had them before or since) so she's not having any more either.

That's normal though. Every time they've stuck anything into me, they've made me hang around for a while after just in case I drop dead.

When I went for my COVID jabs I was told there was no need for me to do the sitting down thing because I was on foot. Seems to be more a concern that you might go faint behind the wheel.

I was allowed to rest in my car, as long as I agreed not to drive off for at least 15 mins. I even asked, given that my car was on the far side of the car park, and facing away from the surgery, how would anyone notice if I'd croaked? I asked them if maybe they might start to suspect something if my car was still there when everyone else had gone home.
