I have that adiantum in my garden...a right pita to get rid of....
FYI, it's not the houseplant one that is referred to as maidenhair fern, as has been pointed out, it's not hardy. It's the one I can't remember the full name of

@LG_ . I'll check my labels and see if I have one of those. Yours certainly looks the same. It's potted up complete with a bit of liverwort now

I have Adiantum hispidulum (rosy / rough maidenhair) which is always late emerging, Adiantum venustum (evergreen / Himalayan maidenhair) and something that is almost certainly Adiantum aleuticum (Aleutian maidenhair) which is just getting started. All gorgeous (A. venustum is my favourite) but I'm still envious of @shiney !

I have adiantum pedatum and adiantum marisii and they both are doing quite well.
Adiantum pedatum last year. I should check for vine weevils.

edit - It did have weevils, so I ended up having to clean the roots and repot the fern. There weren’t many larvae luckily.

This is a common fern that I saved from being overrun by the crowds that are in Tintern.

              20240407ourgarden_01.jpg

That fern starts brown. Somebody in the GW forum last year asked "which way" and showed a fern that couldn't make a decision and decided for a twisted in all directions way. I had the same with that fern below last year and was wondering if that family had an distorted experience in that cold winter.

Called Dryopteris Affinis "Christata the King" 1 - 1.5 m wide and high so the label, but never made it that high in the recent 7 years.

I bought this fern a few years ago but never had a name for it & it now needs repotting. Could anyone confirm what type it is so that I can check how best to care for it? IMG_1035.jpeg IMG_1036.jpeg IMG_1034.jpeg

@Panda2 I may be wide off the mark; it reminds me of Cyrtomium fortunei. The pinna are quite widely spaced. There is a variety C fortunei var. Intermedia that has that characteristic, but it is difficult to find more information about it.
