'Marie Pavie' with its first bloom today.. it usually starts around mid April..

 

I've just bought Marie Pavie from André Eve. It must have been kept in cold storage as it hasn't started into growth yet. I hope it will look like that. I wonder how early it will be next year.

 

Hm. Most of my roses in pots seem to have a few crispy-edged leaves. As far as I can google, I maaay have enthusiastically overfed them. Didn't realize you could with organic fertilizers!
Will they be okay...? They mostly look fine and healthy, just some of the smaller leaves are crispy.

..that's ok, it can be caused by fertilizer burn, usually by not watering in after applying, but also simply wind damage. They'll recover.

Mine were all covered in aphids today, I've rubbed them off as best I can.

A couple of blooms of a climbing French Tea rose [no longer available UK].. the rose is around 6' tall x 10' wide. Strong damask scent, thornless.

Is Charles Darwin (David Austin) a rose worth growing? I saw a nicely shaped plant in my local garden centre recently. I wondered whether it is reasonably disease resistant and flowers well. I grew Grace once and liked it. I have a sunny space for just one rose, so it's got to be good!

 

I've lost my photos of 'Charles Darwin', but I remember it was vigorous, throwing up basals in the first year. The blooms turn a mustard colour, which may not be to everyone's taste. Some people really like that, as it's quite unusual.

'Comtesse Andre d'Oultremont'.. a modern Hybrid Musk rose.. normally more apricot/white.

 

Thank you @Mrs Hillard, that’s very helpful. I prefer mustard on steak so it won’t be invited into my garden.

 

I have some buds at last! Rose de Rescht, planted in March, and Arthur Bell. There are some other buds on a few other roses but I haven't taken photos.

 

I still have no buds but all my roses are new - do you think that's why?

 

Very likely @katecat58. I recently bought 3 roses on an online special offer. They hadn't even started growing leaves yet! I think they were stored in a cold room to keep them for longer. I expect they will be a lot more advanced this time next year.
