Our old, large and heavy SP mower has really had it, well past its best and ready for the skip. We downsized house and garden a few years back so we just need a small mower BUT I now have a dodgy shoulder so the replacement machine must be self-propelled as the small lawn is inclined. Was thinking about a battery/cordless mower but small and SP.
I have googled away but not really found what I need so any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
The alternative would be for a petrol mower but with the electric push-start , not the recoil pull ! Again small and SP.
    Thanks
    Brian.

I had a self drive hayter harrier with a roller for 30 years and it was brilliant but I reached a point when it was too heavy to get to the lawn at our new house so I switched to an ego self driven rechargeable battery mower a couple of years back. It is brilliant and even leaves stripes ! You can add a roller too but I haven’t found it necessary. No fuel to mess with, it’s lighter, cuts really well and stores upright. It’s lighter which is also key for me. I’m chuffed with it to be honest.
The battery can also be used for ego’s other tools. Mine takes about 40 minutes to recharge which is great as it just about does my large lawn in one go in the summer. Two goes in spring if the grass is long and damp but I am at an age where I don’t mind the break anyway !
Ps ego have been making rechargeable garden tools for quite a long time so seem to be pretty good at it.

I'm doing the same! I've shortlisted a Stiga, ego and a couple of others but frankly I'm not convinced enough performance wise or run time to get through the lawns

Which? test lawn mowers extensively. Putting in the parameters ‘small/medium sized lawn’, ‘cordless’ and ‘self propelled’ the best three machines were

      EGOLM1702E-SP 80%
      EGOLM1701E-SP 76%
      STIHL RMA 443 RV 74%

Loofah, what specifications are important to you? Self propelled, battery run time, max price, lawn size, roller, mulching, manoeuvrability, etc

Well loofah I don’t know how much lawn you have but mine is considered ‘big” by most standards fwiw and the ego does the job admirably.

Yes the Which? testing was what put me on in to the ego range. They're generally impressive but I'm comparing to decades and of petrol power and battery performance is difficult to compete

We have 2 different Stihl battery mowers. One is larger for cutting the grass in the orchard and the other is a lot smaller for cutting (at times!) our small lawn. Battery time good. Worth looking at especially if they have a deal so that you get 2 batteries instead of one.

@Loofah Sorry the smaller one isn't Stihl but Einhell GE-CM 18/30 Li bought from Wickes.
The larger one is a Stihl and is self propelling (which can be switched on/off) Model 448 TC.
This has done very well in our orchard cutting paths and then at the end of the year cutting back throughout. And it is so much quieter than the petrol mower we did have and a lot lighter.

Used the Stihl to cut the paths in the orchard this morning. First time for many weeks as far too wet for so long. Grass very lush but mower coped well. One battery used.

I've been looking a bit more (there's a lot more choice than I appreciated!) and all but selected the Ego LM1903E-SP. It seems to tick the right boxes.
I still have reservations on run time, longevity of the battery and it's been about a few years so am expecting it to be replaced soon. But having thought about cost of a new petrol mower plus fuel and servicing (and the embuggerance of getting fuel as I run a diesel car), I think a battery version might be worth a shot.
Haven't ordered one yet but it's at the top of the list
