Canada has it's own NHS and is very good according to my daughter.

 

I dont really know I'm just enquiring, I only know about my relatives in Australia and they all seem to pay into a private health scheme.
I just wonder if the NHS here is still fit for purpose the way its funded as more and more you have to have some kind of private scheme if you want jump the NHS backlog.

 

Easily paid for by the money we saved by leaving the EU. Oh, hang on....

I agree with you.

I said something similar a few pages ago. Politicians of all colours boast about how much they spend or would spend, as if spending more is a good thing. Whereas I made the point that throwing money at things then bragging about how much money you threw, is not really cool. But I guess it must win votes. I'd rather see someone come up with a logical plan to boost efficiency, starting with questions about bureaucracy, and how many layers of management are necessary etc. but I've come to the conclusion that the majority of people don't do logic and reason, and as much as I hate to admit that politicians are very good at anything, I've realised they are exceptionally good at understanding that while there are of course exceptions, the vast majority of people have very short attention spans, and wont actually listen to, or vote in support of, anything that requires thought.

 

How much the NHS budget is, doesn't really tell you much. You need to know how much we spend compared to other comparable countries...... and the answer is...... less.

 

It needs fewer people - to be ill.

 

Quite ... and the way to do that is to reduce the stress on people caused by insecure employment and housing, reliance on food banks, and fuel poverty. Austerity creates the conditions where poor health thrives. Ensuring people have enough to live on would mean more were well enough to work, which would reduce the welfare bill, reduce the pressure on the NHS, and grow the economy. Win, win, win!
