If fewer people were reliant on the bus to function, you'd get on. Plenty of room. You might even get a seat (bed) rather than standing (lying on a trolley in a corridor).

 

In modern Britain, it's a wonder there's anyone that ISN'T sick.

Schools have sold off most of their outdoor space. They don't really need it seeing as sport is not really a thing anymore.

Nobody knows anything about cooking or nutrition anymore.

Nobody is able to walk anywhere. And as for going on the bike, well that would make you a cyclist, and in Britain, that makes you less popular than a leper.

Even if you do know how to cook, and do know something about nutrition, what do you eat? The contents of British supermarkets can only be described as a travesty. For some people, it doesn't matter anyway, they can't afford it.

 

There is also a disproportionate amount wasted on unnecessary management and fiddles. I know of two cases personally, one involving paltry sums regularly fiddled by domestic staff but the other was a fake 'services' billing scam involving £14m. Since most food and cleaning services have been contracted out, it's hard to say whether that side of things has improved, but far too much of the budget is disappearing to pay the hefty salaries of numerous levels of management who simply don't contribute anything to the actual care of patients.

It really is grim here.

When we were in Spain on our holidays last year, I realised just how depressing British supermarkets are when we called into a smallish supermarket for a few bits. There was shelf after shelf of such a variety of amazing produce. Among other things, there were about three different varieties of bananas. Elsewhere there was half a dry cured pig hanging up, and elsewhere still numerous varieties of good bread.

Having travelled abroad plenty of times, although it impressed me, my reaction was practically nonexistent compared to that of my kids, for whom it was there first ever look inside a supermarket that wasn't in England. They couldn't contain their awe. It was like something truly wonderous to them, like beyond real. They were just looking around everywhere, pointing, look at that, what's that? Is that a different kind of banana? They were awestruck. This wasn't some sort of world famous exclusive little food market that the likes of Gordon Ramsay might visit. This was the Spanish equivalent of Sainsbury's Local.

 

Reminds me of our first trip to the south of France in 1980 You do get used to it, and even start taking it for granted. If it's any consolation at all, France is plunging headlong into fast food and ready meals (and beer) so it won't be long now before clothes manufacturers here have to seriously rethink their sizing policy

 

I dont know, its a lot of money but when you consider all the things it does or is expected to do, is it enough?????>?
Its doing more and more each year, and personally I think some of it should stop if its not a specific health issue.

 

Dont mention housing, we have it coming out of our ears here, the council has allowed loads more than that the government told them they have to, but do we get more doctors, better roads, more green spaces, NO we dont.

All we have done is lost acres and acres of farm land under concrete then wonder why the sewage cant be treated and everywhere floods in a light shower of rain.

God knows who's living in all the houses as the local waiting list is getting bigger.

But since we live close to one another, we're probably thinking of the same developments.

 

If people could work hard to achieve rather than to stand still or even slip backwards, they might just be motivated. You could work your butt off for years and still not be able to buy a house about the size of a rabbit hutch or start a family. And if you could, it would be rip off leasehold - and even worse, the garden would be a few square yards of turfed over rubble

 

So who is buying the 4 and 5 bedroom houses they keep chucking up.

There seems to be plenty of money around just judging by the cars everyone seems to be driving.

 

Cars are cheaper than houses. If you're never going to be able to buy a house, you might as well spend the money on a car.

 

Yeah but they seem to have both, I dont know where they are all coming from.
