@pete a close friend of mine went through having to have the op for prostate cancer and it was a real rigmarole but in the end he was totally clear of any cancerous cells. I went with him for his appointments etc so I could make notes as the doctors talked and then write them down for him to fill in any blanks he might not have heard. Totally treatable. Why don't they have the blood test over there like we do here? That is far more reliable.

Believe you're referring to a PSA test? Not too sure how accurate it is though, maybe things have changed.

@pete, you only regret the things you don't do, please don't regret not following the appt up. Step daughter's in the medical field, and her partner is a surgeon who's about coming up to retirement age, both have quoted the saying, 'It the squeaky wheel that gets the attention'. It's possible you could have slipped through the bars because of an admin error. Don't be afraid to make a nuisance of yourself, your life might depend on it.

My PSA has come out exactly the same as last time, I dont mind blood tests, its the bloody camera job that they do.
Then ask would you like to see it, my reply was no just get on with it and pull it out.
They seem to think its some kind of joke.

I didn't know they used the camera for the prostate. I dread to think how that must work.

I had the other camera job. Surrounded by a bunch of female nurses while I male doctor poked something the wrong way up the one way system. That was bad enough. But then they say 'just try to relax'. Relax? Just try to relax? Sure, I'll just try to relax while an entire room full of people get involved in shoving a massive instrument right up my bum, and display it's journey through my gizzards on a massive 50 odd inch TV. Sure, I'll just try to relax.:roflol::oops:

Half the trouble is that because the NHS is skint, the cameras they use aren't exactly the latest tech... getting it all stuffed up there for a look is bound to hurt a bit.

@pete, maybe you will be offered an MRI this time? Certainly worth asking why you aren’t? Much less intrusive, and I’ve read that the results are far more accurate ( and a lot more comfortable than the biopsy)

I am sure this will upset some of you, but here goes, there are some really strange ideas, being talked about, by people who don't know what they are talking about, sometimes it is better to leave it to the people who know.

If it was me, I would have whatever tests they suggest, it is possible you have prostate cancer and the sooner something is done the better.

Hmm, isn't the poo thing for colon cancer not prostate? I don't have a prostate but did the poo test for cancer/polyps.

I'm quite confused. Think I'll have my red wine sprites now... :rolleyespink:

I didn't write poo, the site put that in I used a different word.
I probably would have done 14months ago, if they had done it then, obviously they didn't think it was that important to have put it off for this long.

My moan is that global warming was a big lie. I really didn't like that switch up to "climate change" being the new flavour of our existential threat. :rolleyespink:

Are you suggesting that people should not discuss things that concern them? I'm sure you are very aware, given your profession, that many men have died because some of the things that have been bothering are perceived to be too embarrassing to talk about. While people might not have the medical knowledge, they have had actual experiences. Sometimes sharing those experiences in a lighthearted way, humour but with serious undertones, might just give someone the confirmation to actually mention their concerns to someone that does actually know something, ie a doctor.

I find it interesting that someone in the medical profession would want to ridicule people for discussing subjects that have always been a bit of a taboo. I would have thought that someone that has built a career on the idea of helping to prevent or cure illness, would encourage people to be more open about subjects that historically, and even today, people tend to keep quiet about, sometimes until it's too late.

I think @Punkdoc is right to stay away from offering any more advice than they have and that was out of genuine concern. Anything further could be risking being interpreted as offering a diagnosis. No no no. :paladin:
