@lizzie27 I love the sound of an ancient bluebell wood and I'll bet they are proper bluebells and not the weedy Spanish type that my garden is infested with. I wish I could lay claim to the cards but I just trawl t'internet looking for nice pictures that are free to download then I edit and resize them to post here. What an absolute pain for you at the polling station. I, like @JennyJB just post mine off. My voting was for Mayor of Great Manchester and local councillors. I didn't know that Police and Crime Commisioners had to be voted for. Don't think we have ever had one round here

 

@Ladybird4 I understand that David Cameron decided Police and Crime Commissioners should be ‘political posts’.

 

Good evening all,
It’s been another lovely day, but set to be drizzly tomorrow. Been to York today - it’s not too far up the A19 for us. Spent time meandering the streets, and, like @Punkdoc, listened to the buskers (who were very good, better than in our town), before setting off to our favourite Italian restaurant for a very pleasant lunch, then another meander before coming home.

 

Thanks for that explanation @Dovefromabove but being a person who has absolutely (deliberately) no knowledge of the machinations of politicians, that could be a fact useful in one of my quizzes!

 

Well well here at last, as some of you know I was in Japan when that "other site" shut down and have only just got to signing on here. Not set up my profile (or anything else ) yet not really sure what I am doing yet. Had to put the Old? in front as I was told the name was already taken on this site. I have looked for the posts and can't see any under just AB so we'll see.
Anyway hello all hope you're all ok.

 

And make dinner every night etc. Now its so easy to procrastinate. And if the level of clean home was acceptable during the "working" days, the clean during the "retirement" time is also.

Hello @Old? AllotmentBoy, good to see you here. I asked @Fat Controller to sort out my name, which he kindly did.

I've had quite a busy day. I've ironed and put up some curtains to separate the library alcove from the sitting room to make an extra bedroom for when son comes. I've given both rooms a good clean. This afternoon I weeded most of the long border, sycamore seedlings everywhere and I've dug up an ancient solanum that had died. Just got the washing in, the sheets from when we were last here.

 

Takes a lot of wine to make a pot of risotto. Stand at the stove, simmer the onions in the olive oil, put the rice in, (sip some wine). Then put a ladle of broth in, (sip some wine) stir, (sip some wine), Another ladle of broth, (sip some wine), more broth (sip some wine), etc.

 

I had a nice visit with my friend today and we were so lucky with the weather. We sat in the orchard in the sun for an hour just generally chatting. The apple trees - which are mainly grown as cordons - were full of blossom but the pear trees had gone over and they were all covered with little fruitlets. There are still some trees that need to be DNA tested and the odd one or two that are complete unknowns rather like the one my friend was given permission to name in honour of his wife. This is it:
